Deaths fro Supplements and Prescription Drugs

The people dropping dead from health suppliments just do not get the

attention that the bad vaccines, and food additives get.

Who and where are people dying from supplements. The death of the baseball

and football players--that were overplayed and blamed on ephedra use were

professional athletes training under intense pressure and extreme heat

resulting in heatstroke. Where was the trainer!. Small trace amounts of

ephedrine, pseudoephedrine and caffeine were found in his autopsy. When the

football player died a year before NO traces of eohedra were found in his

blood--but still ephedra was blamed. people rarely die from supplements, but

106,000 patients die in hospitals ALONE from prescription drugs " taken as

directed " -not overdoses-that's almost 300/day. FDA wants you to focus on the

rare death, publicized ad na nauseum, arguably attributed to a supplement.

Hi Elaine,

I just had to reply to this one. I've used an ephedra formula for the entire time that I've worked shift work (6 years), rotating shift work in a job that demands my attention. I basically pooh-pooh all the crap coming down about ephedra. My take on it:

I just had an accident at work on my 3-11 shift. 15 minutes there I cut my arm fairly seriously on a piece of glass. Nice clean cut, but required stitches (At home it would not have as I'd have just put slippery elm on it and kept it clean). Of course since it happened at work, it required a trip to the company doc's office. Of course one of the things they do there is to take your temp and pulse and blood pressure.

Now when I'm on 3-11 I don't use coffee or ephedra products. (I don't use ephedrine, its actually the herb in a formula, although it is extracted to 18% as a standardized formula). I will mention that I use many other herbs and vitamins, like niacin 500mg, as well.

Anyways, blood pressure right after the cut and rush over to the doc's office, was high---134/90. I'm almost always, for some 20 years, 120/80. The pressure goes up when I go to a doctor in the morning after working all night as well. Coffee mixed with the ephedra formula. I also know that I'm abusing myself in relation to this, but I don't know which is the worse abuse---the rotating shift with this job (soon to end) or the herbal stimulants. But I've had times when I've had all the parts checked when I've only used the ephedra, without any coffee, and the blood pressure remained at my normal 120/80. And the pressure has been checked out as well after just consuming coffee, and then it has varied--sometimes 120/80 and sometimes higher. Never any higher than 130/90.

Anyways, the next two trips to the same doctor my blood pressure was 117/70 and 114/70. Blood pressure would appear to go up with accident stress, work stress, and I reckon the stimulants. Like the athletes who use the products as well. They stress their bodies in other ways.

I have no long term high blood pressure. But, I am happy that I see light at the end of the tunnel to start working out of my home rather than in a factory. I'll still keep ephedra herb, mahuang, in its pure herbal form here at the house for the combination into traditional chinese herbal formulas for medicinal purposes, or tonic, but not for its stimulant stuff. Won't need to do that anymore.

I also want to say that in relation to using these products I try to keep taking other herbs that keep things healthy that perhaps mahuang and cofffee can damage, although they don't necessarily damage things.

The FDA has ulterior motives for trying to get something that is herbal off the market because it works for various things. Unlike some of the medicines that it has approved for various reasons ($$$$$$$$).

And again, it would be good for everybody to recognize that life needs to be lived in balance. Although there are always times when the most balanced person is called to live out of balance. Most of us do not live as a hermit on an isolated mountain in China. Everybody's person is different to some extent. The athlete(s) that died while using mahuang? Mahuang combined with other things they were taking, their entire diet (perhaps they had elevated cholesterol levels as well), the stress of heat, competition, being mentally driven to achieve (a type of person that regularly dies from heart disease), all combined with taking mahuang to get an edge, perhaps? But the FDA does not want to recognize the true effects all the other bio-chemical effects of what is going on in the person's body. Just to pick out the herb.
