I'm pretty sure that he's caught in the denial of the situation

which is normally the first reaction, so using EP (david's or

Gary's) to work with that first stage might help so he can go forward from that.

ps. Paulina, I'd also use EP on yourself (which now that I have

second thoughts, I'm sure you've already done it).
