Guest guest
Cataract Surgery: Overview http://www.injuryboard.com/topic/cataract-surgery-overview.aspx A cataract is cloudiness in the lens of the eye. Cataracts cause loss of vision over an extended period of time. The exact cause of cataracts is unknown. However, cataracts may occur after exposure to X-rays, excessive sunlight, certain drugs, and as the result of some diseases. Generally, cataracts affect older people. In fact, about 50% of the population has a cataract by age 65. Cataract surgery may successfully alleviate the condition through removal of the defective lens and the implantation of an artificial lens. The cataract removal procedure was developed decades ago and has been perfected over the years. The overwhelming majority of people who undergo cataract surgery experience vastly improved vision. With over 2 million cataract surgeries performed each year, it is the most common medical procedure conducted in the United States. As with any medical procedure, there are certain risks associated with cataract surgery. As such, some cataract patients may actually emerge from the procedure with poorer vision than they started with. Fortunately, the chances of experiencing an adverse outcome after a cataract procedure are very low. However, all too often hurried doctors undertake cataract surgeries for which they are under trained or inadequately prepared. If your vision has deteriorated after cataract surgery, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights.
