Fictional and Literary Crystals

Alright, well, I'm really telling on myself here, but in high school, I

absolutely loved the Terry Brooks series about the Elfstones of Shannara (I

probably spelled that very wrong!) and I still love the Mary Stewart series

about the life of Merlin, called The Crystal Cave. (I read it at age 10, before

ever hearing of Mary Zimmer Bradley, and was terribly confused by the changes in

characters when I read Mists of Avalon. The " Cave " books are told from Merlin's

point of view, from childhood to adult.)

I have a question though--I know the crystal skulls you mentioned are fictional,

but aren't there real crystal skulls too? I barely caught the end of a segment

on this on either Discovery or a similar channel the other day. I really wish

I'd seen the whole thing. The part I caught said that there were supposedly

eight of them in the world, but only two (??) have been found. Supposedly, they

were studied by " rock specialists " (dont' know the correct term here), and found

to be made of a single piece of quartz--but no tool markings were evident--and

they had supposedly not been molded either. (I saw a site a few days ago that

offers quartz crystal balls, says they are made by crushing and grinding quartz

to powder, then somehow liquefying it and molding it into perfectly clear

crystal balls)

At any rate, they are supposed to be quite old--again I missed who supposedly

had owned them, but they were royalty.

Ok, now I'm laughing at myself. . .but this does have to do with crystals after

all!

There is a children's cartoon on PBS at 10 am PST, called " Dragon Tales " , and

the children (brother and sister) own a crystal called a Dragon Stone, that they

use to transport themselves to Dragon World, where they have adventures with

their dragon friends. My sons love it, it's very well done, lots of fantasy.

They often use different crystals for other things in the episodes too.
