>Hi y'all. I'm kind of in the dumps today.

Yep.

Been there, done that a few million times.

I LOVE questions like these. Thank you;-)

>We were working some self-defense drills last night and I

kept " freezing up. " I >would see multiple targets but it was like I

couldn't decide on which one to go with >and I kept hesitating.

Normally caused by internal dialogue, or talking to yourself. If you

talk you can't see well, nor hit well. Which does turn into a vicious

circle of negative internal dialogue.

What is important here is NOT the talk, but the REASON behind the

talk.

>I was (and still am) so disgusted with myself that I fealt like

giving back my belt >and certificates! LOL.

DEFINITIVELY a self-talk thing that went into the negative " gees, I'm

NO good because…routine " .

>Anyway, I got up an hour early this morning and went to the school

to get in some >extra practice. I don't know what happened but if it

occurred on the street I'd be >dead right now.

Probably NOT.

You are a highly trained black belt, and on your worse day you could

easily " kick butt and take names on the street " .

You just compared yourself to the wrong person.

Any person that compares themselves to Jesus Christ will feel

inferior.

Any person on a bad day that compares themselves to their best day is

going to feel inferior.

We'll help you fix it in a minute.

>I guess I've gotten rusty since going back to college. I still

practice, but not nearly >as much as I used to...... sigh.

A method of giving a " reason " to why you felt rusty.

This is very normal. Especially if it is true and you were working

out with those that are still training more regularity since they

have less hectic schedules.

My boy Jack Williams is going to college full time (21 credits a

term), running Warrior Publications and my 4 websites, and teaching

Kenpo Karate, training at Kenpo Karate, and attempting to give his

girl friend the cuddling that she needs.

Him keeping himself on track with each of his focuses is pretty

simple. He segments the time for job, homework, girlfriend, lessons

etc, and stays focused because he KNOWS WHAT HE WANTS and why he is

doing what he is doing.

All SELF-MOTIVATING reasons of his own.

>Anyway, what suggestions do you folks have to help increase

spontaneity and >reaction time? Any drills or suggestions are MORE

than welcome. Thanks! I >appreciate any assistance I can get!

Well, when do martial arts you need to get into the state of " doing

martial arts " , and out of the state of what stresses you.

That switching states is really simple to do once you know how to do

it.

I could make the answer really complex, or I can make it really

simple.

For now, let's make it simple.

It is more than just a decision to work out especially when other

things to do, time wise, are conflicting with what you are currently

doing.

In the body and mind, other stressors linger when attempting to relax

by doing something you love, i.e., Kenpo Karate. Your unconscious

mind will send signals of distress of what " you NEED to do `stressor'

and you attempt eustress (something pleasant) " .

This condition is called a Psychological Reversal. A PR is not as

horrible as it sounds.

Unless it's really chronic it can be fixed enough in about 20 seconds

by doing the following affirmation as you rub DEEPLY the lymphatics

on your check where the arm is connected to the body.

You had 3 PR's in your initial statement about. So I'll give you the

fix for each one in the order you gave them.

1. So, rub DEEPLY that spot as you state OUTLOUD, " Even though I

froze up, I totally appreciate and accept myself! Even though I froze

up, I totally appreciate and accept myself! Even though I froze up, I

totally appreciate and accept myself! "

Do it 3-4 times.

2. Then rub DEEPLY as you state OUTLOUD, " Even though I can't decide

upon the best target I totally appreciate and accept myself! Even

though I can't decide upon the best target I totally appreciate and

accept myself! Even though I can't decide upon the best target I

totally appreciate and accept myself! "

Do it 3-4 times.

3. Then rub DEEPLY as you state OUTLOUD, " Even though I hesitated I

totally appreciate and accept myself! Even though I hesitated I

totally appreciate and accept myself! Even though I hesitated I

totally appreciate and accept myself! "

Then you should be able to do much better instantly.

That simple lymphatic drill along with the EMPHASIZED affirmation of

appreciation will help remove those stressors from your body

instantly!

When your lymphatics get sore, switch sides.

Now there are a few simple drills you can do to reconnect mind with

body better, but I won't go over them unless you want them.

Let me know how the above worked for you.

It is from some Energy Psychology drills that I've adapted for my

athletes over the past few years.

If Shak would do that drill BEFORE attempting his free-throw shots

he'd do much better;-)
