Guest guest Posted June 8, 2004 Report Share Posted June 8, 2004 Hi Akiko, We live in Tx now but will be retiring in Florence, God Willing in 4 1/2 years. It is mid state on the coast. We love it there & love the parts of Or. that we have traveled in. We rented a car & drove the coast looking for a place - when we drove into Florence " the feeling " hit us. We go alot be our inner feelings, sometimes we're wrong *S*. I suggest you do the same. My only advice is: when you find the place that you love, don't bring the big city with you. This is the only thing that bugs me about people leaving the big city & moving to the small - love it until they move there then they want to bring the big city conveniences to the small town. Yes, I will check with my gut feeling. : ) I don't know if I ever had " big city " with me even when I lived in Tokyo and now in LA. I just feel like I'd scream in a big city. When I came to CA, I lived in Riverside and I found it very peaceful and nice. Some of my friend said it was boring place, but I never got bored. I guess I was really burned out in Tokyo. Then I lived in Orange, and I loved it. But the smog is very bad there too and housing cost is very high. I never wanted to live in LA if my husband wasn't living here. But I will probably bring some with me without being aware. We are talking about how much city life we can go without. Now if they ever get into planning for the city they would let pass all the building permits. And during the late 70's and early 80's a lot of farmers lost their land or had to sell it. We were only 1 hour from Chicago, so lots of city people that were tired of living in the city would come out and buy LAND. lol They'd be so excited to have an acre of land, maybe even TWO, while still being close enough to drive to work every day (!!!--I would never drive that far, one way, to go to work). Thing is, instead of building their homes in the middle of their land, they'd build right smack on one property line, so the person next to them could build right beside them!!!! I just never got that. It seemed they couldn't be comfortable without being able to look out their window and look directly into someone else's window. We live on a gravel road on five acres, and all of the house are FAR apart. LOL! Everybody around here knows everyone else, etc. However, 5-10 miles down the road, you have the city and all the stores, theaters, etc. Unfortunately, I think we got the last available lot. Oh, we live in Colorado, not Oregon. LOL!
