Guest guest
Interesting.  I took TM in 1974 or so.  Could have been as early as 72, though.  I already had experience with meditation.  I took TM then because I was still a student (saved $) and because when I got the Ph.D. in Psychology it would take more "clearance" to take the course.  As it was, I had to sign papers and get special approval after promising I would not use TM as part of my work. The day I was given my mantra was awesome.  I have never felt that kind of consciousness without benefit of some substance before or since.  It was an amazing and unexpected experience.  But soon after, I developed a problem with premature ventricular contractions and when I was in deep meditation they scared the crap out of me.  With a much lowered heart rate, it felt like my heart wasn't going to start again.  It felt like I waited about an hour for another beat.  I also remember that if the phone rang it sent me up the wall, with a resulting very rapid heart beat and adrenaline rush and shaking. This was in a time when if you took the phone off the hook you had a constant annoying beep.  No way to just turn it off where I lived.  I became so panicky after being ripped from deep meditation on several occasions that I had to stop for a while. It was years before the PVCs got better.  I'm sure I was basically Fire then (as now), but I was in a Wood time and less Earth than now.  I was finishing my Ph.D. research, writing, teaching and getting a divorce.  Ah, TM:  It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.  I think I actually went too deep too fast. I'm good at hypnosis, too.  I think I'll go zone out for a while. So, I guess like many things it has to do with who you are when you do it and who your teachers are. So the educational governing body thought that only wackos, druggies and flower children did TM? I guess Deepak wasn't aroound then so they thought it was a hindoo cult?
