Guest guest
Personally, I don't put much faith in DVD learning, esp. ifit is a system in which you don't have any prior experience. Well, It's pretty well proven in Educational Psychology that video training is very valuable when done correctly and when done as an adjunct to training they are also experiencing. It's been pretty well proven that video training (presupposing it's a well organized video by a craftsman) will: 1. Save training time, 2. Save lots of money and... 3...will give you access to skills that you cannot get in your local area. 4. And when you train with video you get to choose from some of the BEST DAMN trainers in the world, ones that probably make your home town boy look pathetic. Proven! Let's say that you get one private a week. That's ½ hour. But with video training you can get ½ an hour or MORE a day! With video training you can rewind the video and go over any Waza or concepts that you didn't get before. Attempt rewinding a private session. Attempt rewinding a group session. And group sessions are worse for learning and for retention than any other type of training. Groups normally go at the rate of the slowest client in the class. Groups NEVER go at the learning rate of the student that is a natural and excels quickly because he has the neurology of a visual/kinesthetic learner. In a group, even if you have a 5th Dan leading, you probably get to work out with a white belt, or a kid, or an orange belt. We REQUIRE video training for our clients in addition to their private sessions (two a week), in addition to their Mastery Classes, and in addition to their Sparring Mastery Classes. They are also required to keep a notebook of all private sessions and of all mastery class sessions. Not much, but enough to remember more than 10 minutes what they've learned in class with their black belt trainer. Within one sleep period most people FORGET 90% or more of what they've learned! Just a few thoughts. Respectfully. ©
