Actually have some electricity now, but Natchez and the surrounding areas have run out of gas, food and living space. Crime has increased exponentially with the gangs coming out of New Orleans to fresh meat, so I would not be surprised if a race war occurred. Now a comment for several people that made comments that would make it seem a racial problem. 1) All the blacks are out of New Orleans. There are still white families stuck on roofs in St. Bernard's parish (Louisiana has parishes rather than counties). They have received NO attention from the press. 2) I am sorry, but this was a hurricane and God or whatever your higher power, poe-aumakua, etc. sent the disaster, not the whites or the Bush government. It affected white and black alike. The mayor of New Orleans who is black is not the leader that the mayor of New York was during the 9/11 crisis. Rather than taking control, he whined and cursed on television that he was not being taken care of promptly. 3)All the white churches in Natchez have opened their doors and done relief efforts. Not one of the black churches has done so. And yes, Natchez is mostly black and has a black mayor. 4)It is very bad down here and probably going to get worse. 5) There comes a time in life when whining doesn't get it, you have to get off your ass and get things done yourself. As Doc put it, " Get Shit Done " 6) It is a difficult time down here and it does not help with nay sayers and people with their own agenda getting on television and screaming racism. There is plenty of racism down here, ON BOTH SIDES, but let's get through the emergency first and then work on the problems rather than whining. 7) I am not even going to start on the problems that we have encountered at the hospital, and how much work I have had to do. Work has tripled and we have been cursed and threatened (yes, with physical violence) for days. Every threat toward the doctors and nurses, both black and white, have come from blacks. Don't really worry if I pissed someone off or not, but there are two sides to the story and the one that you are getting from the media is not totally correct. Thank you for the prayers, and please continue them for all of us in the Southland. Calvin Poole
