Guest guest
A post by a mother in a list:------ Sometimes I realize how fortunate I am to live in a small midwestern town where there are no specialists, only family practicioners. We chose a homebirth with a lay midwife for our first baby in large part to avoid the routine hospital vaxes (homebirth isn't illegal but nurse midwives are barred from attending homebirths, so we had to find a lay midwife from out of state...sigh. ..) . Anyway, our FP was willing to be my dr. if a transfer to the hospital was needed and when he checked the baby after the birth he asked "have you thought about vaccines?" and I said "I don't plan on doing any vaccinations until he's atleast a year", and he said "yeah, a lot of moms are doing that now". End of discussion! Seriously, the more I read these boards, the more I realize how amazing that is. And I also had to take the baby to my parents FP for something, and he asked about vaccines, and I said I planned on waiting till he was closer to school age, and he told me he strongly recommended the pertussis and HIB vaccines, but other than that he thought it could all be delayed, and that with his own children he had allowed them to get regular chickenpox rather than the varicella vaccine. The truth is, I don't know that I plan to EVER vaccinate. But it was nice to have two different dr's be totally calm about my plans to delay vaxing. And I think the attitude of "delay" rather than "never" is a lot easier for most reasonable dr's to grasp, even if it's not entirely true.-------Hippocrates once said “Give me a fever and I can cure the childâ€. By understanding that a simple fever is a symptom rather than a condition orillness in itself, you soon come to realise that it is an ally and notan enemy. Fevers are the first sign that your child’s immune symptom isfunctioning as it should. By increasing core body temperature, feversenable the immune system to swing into action, indicating the body’sdefences are fighting an infection and consequent temperaturefluctuations indicate how the body is coping. - Natural Parenting.
