Well, addiction is the " state " BEFORE the chemical is taken. So, for pain, when the state (pain) diminishes, the need for M diminishes. In Viet Nam, when heroin was used, what was the " state " that lead to the use? Fear? Escapism? What was it? And, when they came home, was that pre-state still in existence? Or do they now have a productive life, at least in comparison with Viet Nam? Addiction is a pre-state that leads to the chemical. And our habitual " states " lead to our personalities.
