Hi!,

Could you tell me how much and what kind of deterioration the MRI shows. Are

you bone on bone?

There is a lot that Oriental Medicine can do to help you. The biggest problem

is if you have bone on bone deterioration. However, if the main problem is in

the ligaments than Oriental Medicine and Proper Stretching will really help.

Alignment and other things need to be looked at.

A practitioner with background in this would greatly help. I would

investigate as much as possible. Some PT's have background also. You are

right in trying to postpone surgery at your age. Although it as a good track

record as surgery goes the problem areas are if one leg becomes shorter than

the other (a lot of problems can follow this) Also you will still probably

have to do much of the same things in terms of self help to keep yourself

from having this problem in the other hip, etc.

Hope this helps,

Bobbi

Hi Bobbi:

From what I could tell looking at the x-ray,

there is bone on bone at the outer edge of

the joint....I was still able to see some

ligament...

The pain tells me it's definitely bone on bone.

I have started some stretching exercises and it's

seemed to help some. I'm all " crooked " though

from limping for about 3-4 years.....

I realize that I'll eventually have no choice

but surgery and, in the meantime, wondered what

else I could do to help.....

My bone density is fine, by the way. Seems this

bad hip is a congenital thing......

Thanks....Linda

Hi Linda!!

If there is still some ligament then acupuncture and stretching can

definitely help. Some myofacial release work may also help. Yoga done

correctly and chiropractic's should also help to straighten out the crooked

part. Acupuncture in my opinion can help to straighten the channels in the

hip and thereby perhaps strengthen the ligaments that are still left. It can

also release the overtighten ligaments and connective tissue that is

overcompensating. Over tight ligaments and connective tissue can also cause

major pain. The only thing that will help bone on bone is the wearing down of

the places where it occurs or surgery. Also grape seed extract sometimes

called OPC is good for keeping ligaments flexible and turmeric and boswellian

are herbs that are good for stopping arthritis and reducing inflammation.

Please keep in touch and let me know how it is going. I am sorry it has taken

so long to respond however I will do my best to respond as quickly as

possible if you do keep in touch!!

Best Wishes,

Bobbi
