Guest guest
Doc!!!! OH. MY. GOD!!!!!! What you said--thunderbolts and lightning!! At 09:24 AM 3/10/2005 +0000, you wrote: dyslexia is NOT a disease and can easily be fixed! ....AFTER they've been taught to make visual pictures by using the visual memory parts of their brains, by the simple method of using proper eye accessing cues to trigger those portions of the brain... THIS is what I somehow taught myself to do YEARS ago. For about the first 6 years of school, I was told that I was (pick one or more) lazy, stupid, ignorant, retarded, and oh yes, unteachable. This was in...I'm guessing the 50's or so, and I'm not sure the terms " reading disabilities " or " dyslexia " had been invented yet. Certainly no one (not even my parents, who were among my worst critics) talked about it. Around the time I passed 6th grade by a hair (or maybe out of pity), I somehow developed a way to read that I still use today. I looked at pictures, not words, not the components (letters) of the words. Each word was a picture. Sometimes I got it wrong, still do (ps, makes for some pretty good puns sometimes). But by about the middle of 7th grade, I was " reading " and doing so voraciously. By high school, I had increased the " picture " to include entire pages of the chapters that needed to covered, and my grades rose tremendously. I like to read this way even today, because it's faster. If I need to read a street sign so we can make the proper turn, I read that way. I can read it in a flash, rather than picking out individual letters to come up with the correct street name. So this is what Paul Scheele is teaching in " photo-reading " ?? Or is what I do something else entirely? (And oh, yes, sometimes I will read the back of the book if not first, at least well before I get to the middle of it.)
