Guest guest
Doc, There is man in the San Francisco Bay Area named David Smith who is a Medical Qi Gong Grand Master, the only Westerner they were willing to train that far. David is a pretty knowledgeable guy in areas other than TCM as well as trained as a doctor in China. He studied for a number of years with some highly skilled Chinese people. He said that the people he trained with do have real skills. Maybe they were able to keep a low enough profile during Mao's time. I don't know. It is kind of like Huna. They went underground when the US government started persecuting people involved in the practice. You probably know a lot more about that than I do. Even in Hawaii the US Government was not able to eliminate it completely even though they tried. China is once again working hard to stop many highly effective techniques from being taught to prospective doctors. David said they still allow him to teach what the Chinese doctors are now forbidden to teach again, even those who trained him. Apparently it had loosened up a bit during the time he trained because there were Chinese people also trained. While a lot was probably lost, not all of it was. A few did manage to maintain some of the knowledge. David is a pretty smart person and his BS meter is pretty good. Actually, I would love for you two to meet. I'll bet you would like each other. Most Westerners can not tell the difference between highly skilled and minimally skilled anyway. My Feldenkrais teacher has been studying TCM for about 4 years. Some of the stuff she spouts dogmatically makes me bristle. And she does not realize what she is installing in the students in the Feldenkrais class. An example is that ALL wind is harmful. This includes everything from a warm spring (or fall) breeze to hurricanes. Sorry. That does not jive with my own experience of some winds being nourishing. I am very glad to have trained with you. That training has helped my BS (bull shit) meter to be pretty accurate at times. I just barf on the keyboard - Jeeezz, Doc. you should do something about that reflex. How about surgery? [allopathic response] Valium? [allopathic response] Hold yer NVs [donna] Smell this rose [ homeopathic response]. Get real [rusty] C'mon doc., TCM continues; just not in The People's Republic of China [ bet there's an underground though]. Having said all that, I agree about the butt holes, just don't throw the baby out with the dirty diaper.
