Guest guest
Some follow-up notes about marketing and making money. Have you ever thought about what money is and how you know how much something is worth? Without money, we have to barter. We have to swap my labour (energy) for your labour (energy). You give me a massage, I rebuild your wall. You give me a loaf of bread, I mow your lawn. This is kind of slow and difficult. So we insert money in the middle as a kind of universal representation of energy. My labour can be converted into money and then converted back into someone else's labour. How much money something is worth depends on who is appraising it. I have friends who spend thousands on home stereo equipment - no home stereo is worth £2,000 to me but to them, it's worth every penny. The key point is that if you are a seller of services, no-one will ever pay you more than you ask. And what you ask is a reflection of your own confidence in and estimation of your services. So much of the secret to wealth, for me at least, has been developing the confidence in my skills and abilities and the willingness to ask a high price and gratefully receive it. I have increased my prices numerous times since I began work and I now see more people than ever before, not less. More than just the nuts and bolts of marketing, studying with Doc and others has helped me remove the blocks I had to being wealthy. And removing those blocks has made me a better, happier person. It's not just the money, it's the self-respect, security and strength that come from building belief in yourself. Timid salesmen do indeed have skinny kids. I think Gary Halbert once said 'As a result of my ads, many people have sent me death threats. But many more people have sent me bags and bags and bags of money.' He might as well have said 'bags and bags of energy' or 'bags and bags of love' because that's what money is. Money is just a convenient way to measure how much love you're giving to and receiving from other people. I urge you to start spreading it around more.
