A rosette form of gypsum is called a Desert Rose. Don't know if I'm aware of a calcite rosette. >This woman also gave me a bunch of stuff I don't know much about how to >use - STAUROLITE (or fairy cross), An easy search for Staurolite. There's a State Park in Virginia where they are found and Georgia's state mineral: http://www.geobop.com/World/NA/US/GA/Geo.htm > COPAL, Akin to Amber. Petrified plant resin. Personally I enjoy the fresh resin as incense it seems particularly spiritual to me. >even something she called WATER STONE (looks like a cross between clear >quartz and a Herkimer diamond). http://www.monmouth.com/~mfrank/waterstone.html I'll be looking forward to what others bring in too. Guest guest
Wow! What a nice Christmas! I am not familiar with calcite rosettes, nothing about this form of calcite in Melody's book. There's lots of good stuff about staurite, which I am also unfamiliar with... " ...crystalized tears of fairies, formed when the fairies were informed of the death of Christ. Used in ceremonies of " white magic " and can facilitate the action of the rituals...worn by Pocohontas.. can also be used to provide a connection between the physical, astral and extra-terrestriial planes... " Plus lots more... Copal I know. It is fossilized tree sap, possibly an intermediary stage beteen running sap and amber. It is flammable (for some reason) and has been used for centuries by the Mayans as incense. Since I live in Mexico and can buy it at the local market fairly cheap, I burn a small nugget each morning at the entrance to our business/home. It's aroma is slightly sweet and delicious. It gives me a chance to say thank you for yesterday and ask for a blessing on today. Water stone, hmmmm, interesting. I recently bought a small cluster of quartz like points. They were extremely clear, and I thought perhaps it might be the Mexican variety of a Herkimer cluster. A geologist friend said no, it was just quartz, but what does he know! Perhaps I stumbled upon a water stone cluster?? Actually, I really think it's Mexican Herkimer. What else did you get??? This is vicarious fun! Namaste, Sally , " Susan S. This woman also gave me a bunch of stuff I don't know much about how to use - STAUROLITE (or fairy cross), COPAL, even something she called WATER STONE (looks like a cross between clear quartz and a Herkimer diamond). Anyone know about these?
