Guest guest
I have been reading a lot about alternative medicine lately because I am constantly sick. I want to try acupuncture for headaches and anxiety. I was wandering if someone could tell me their reasons for choosing acupuncture over traditional medicine, maybe it can help me decide whether it is right for me. Any comments will help. Guest guest
I am a practitioner, so I am a little biased, but I can tell you what I like about it...for myself and for my patients. The biggest draw for me was and is that Chinese medicine sees the connection between the body and the mental/emotional/psychological. I have always been a firm believer that your mental state plays a role in your overall health. Traditional Western medicine is coming around finally, but this is not an emphasis. Chinese med says that physical problems can cause the mental or emotional ones and vice versa. And, beyond " causing " these things, they are related and therefore treatable together. For example, easily irritated, tight shoulder muscles, bad PMS (cramps, mood swings, headaches), nausea, clotting during menstrual bleeding...these symptoms can all be from the same source and are treatable together. What I especially like about this idea...that all things are connected...is that it can be empowering. There are things you, I can do. Besides going to see my practitioner for a treatment or herbs, I can do stretches, exercises to build energy, eat different things, use moxa on myself at home, do accupressure on points. All things your practitioner can help you with, and it let's you be a part of the healing process. I like that. It does mean that I have to own the bad choices I make that may be contributing to my condition...like not eating as aoften as I should or drinking soda. But, that also means I have some control over my body and its state. Also, there are a number of different ways to approach the same problem without any of them being too invasive. Lastly, I hate having to take meds. That something I'm taking could cause more problems, possibly worse problems or even more of the same is not what I go for...unless I really need it. The acupuncture can be used preventatively to make it less likely that I will need something. Besides that, I sometimes forget to take things; that goes for herbs, too, though. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Some accupuntcure points lend themselves to self treatment by accupressure afterwards. Doctors that are willing to take the extra time to explain about meridians and the points for your treatment are prefered in some cases. bcarr217 <bcarr217 wrote: I have been reading a lot about alternative medicine lately because I am constantly sick.
