I thought aroma therapy was marketing crap - until a presentation by this guy David Crow (at a green business thing I had to go to):"...Approximately ten percent of plants produce essential oils. The biological process of creating essential oil molecules within a plant is referred to as a secondary metabolic pathway, meaning that it occurs subsequent to more fundamental physiological processes. It is interesting to note that most aromatic plants are not vulnerable to common pathogens and pests that affect non-aromatic plants; it is therefore likely that the appearance of these secondary metabolic pathways represent botanical immunological evolution. What is even more intriguing is the historical evidence that those who have worked with essential oils during times of epidemics, such as distillers, perfumers, and physicians specializing in the use of aromatic medicines, were less vulnerable to contagious illnesses than the general population. This empirical observation points to the possibility that chronic exposure to the aromatic molecules produced by enhanced botanical immunity has the potential to stimulate, enhance, or somehow educate human immunological responses, a possibility that is now receiving increased attention among researchers. ..."Full article here:http://www.floracopeia.com/content/essential-oils/the-aromatic-journey-of-prana#more-22And this long article for how to choose and use oils:http://www.floracopeia.com/content/uncategorized/how-to-use-essential-oils-safelyHe said that it takes scientists about 10 years to develop a new antibiotic -- and bacteria about 2 weeks to figure out how to beat the drug.Plants that produce essential oils have superior immune defenses.I got a tiny tiny bottle of White Sage from the high Sierra mountains (for 10 bucks) and I put a drop on my palms, rub together and just breathe the most amazing scent in.  Helen Driscoll

Gerber also goes over them in Vibrational Medicine.

Greg just sent me something recently on research about how women can tell at a

subconscious level a man's interest by the chemicals in his sweat - women showed

different readouts from monitoring equipment when the man was sweating regularly

vs when he was interested - and this was JUST from his sweat, not seeing the

person.

Of course we've all heard the pheromone stuff before.

I'm pretty sure that scent affects mood. Whether or not it's a conditioned

response or accidentally anchored response, I don't know. The very fact that

some people have the ability to be allergic to different flower...

Some people love the scent of fresh cut grass and are energized and get in a

good mood while others choke to death over it. And then still others get amused

by watching those who are choking to death.

Jasmine is supposed to have a calming effect and women supposedly have their

mood enhanced by it. I know one time Beth told me about it when you were still

on Grape Street.

I mostly think that aromotherapy stuff is crap though (notice my

" pre-qualifiers " I mention above before chewing me out. Heck, I even tried to

come up with a licorice scented cologne one time lol). I like a pine scented

candle, but don't heat aromatherapy oils and expect me to want to smell the

stuff. I'd rather smell a good steak or pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravy, and

biscuits.

certain ones or you don't. Some work for people & some don't. A lot of people

like jasmine & I can't stand it. I was taught early on that if you have an

aversion to a scent, it's not for you!!
