Just imagine a dislocated knee, getting up on it and running a mile just because you want to get in shape. Not very smart is it? But just imagine stretching that knee slowly in the perfect angle that relocates it in it's socket proper... ....then imagine giving that knee, brand new revitalization with a 20 minute peanut oil massage twice and day... ....holding the two lymphatics behind the knee for 2 minutes several times a day to increase the blood flow, decrease the pain, and increase the acceleration of the healing... ....and, then after a day or two of proper care, starting out on short walks, maybe using a cane properly... ....and when you are capable, of longer walks... ....then, one day, GOSH! You can run! > If they are misaligned, from what I understand (and practice >myself) Ooops! I guess I was not clear. Let me do it again. The neck rolls are AFTER the simple neck stretches. The rolls themselves are NOT the drill, but the end of the drill! I would not start with the rolls as you state below, but you can if you want. Doing the 4 main stretches FIRST actually does minor, gentle adjustments, when done slowly and with care. Even with this simple drill. >you can still roll it 75% of the way around, start by >tilting your >head forward, then roll it to the left, then forward >and to the >right, then forward and to the left, etc. > I.e., roll it in every direction except for back. Good advice David. And my question is, " so if you do have an injury in the 'back' what should you do? Just let the neck atrophy? " To me, there is always a solution " if " we ask the right questions, go to the right " authorities " and take " some action " . Let me explain that a bit, if I may. I was involved in a car accident about 3 months ago. This Water Element drove through a 4 way stop sign and a flashing red light at 45 mph's and T-boned me. Her comment was " gosh I never saw nothing...I don't know what happened... " Duh! Anyway. Part of the damage was to the 1st Thoracic... ....so doing the complete neck roll was/is difficult... ....BUT there is a way. What I now do is " segment intend " that 1st T by placing my middle finger on the spot that is sore... ....then I do that roll. Please remember they are meant to be done slowly! If you do them slowly, the neck will flex, the vertebra will flex, and the Meridians will open. Do them quickly, and they'll crunch, snap crackle and pop. So, just " because " that exercise can be done incorrectly by people that proceed too fast, then just maybe we should " ban " that drill and never use it again, right? That does make perfect sense to me. Use ecology to self when doing any drill. Thanks David for the input. John M.
