Guest guest
Shekinah- > What is goldstone really? The exact formula for making it is generally kept secret. I know several people that know *approximatelY* how it is made, but the exact details are proprietary. It does contain copper, though I'm unsure from what source. The copper in the goldstone is curious as the tetrahedrons of copper shoudl break down, but they do not. This is partially what accounts for the glittery effect of goldstone. As for whether or not it has any metaphysical properties, it really depends on who you ask. I personally don't care much for the man made/altered material, as I don't believe these " stones " can come close to the inherent beauty and power expressed through the intelligence of the natural world. After working with stones for over a decade, I have yet to find the same level of energetic expression in man made/altered stones that are found in the Natural world. I know that many people feel that while most of Nature's creations emit a fairly precise (or very precise, in some cases) band of frequency the man made/altered materials tend to emit a more diffused energy. In some cases I think this may be true while in other cases (like the fake obsidians that are nothing more then art glass) that there is no energy in them at all beyond the color that could be found in anything - natural or artificial - containing that same color. I believe that man altered stones may have more energy than man made, but I still believe that often this alteration process can produce significant trauma for the stones and therefore their energy is adversely impacted in some cases. This trauma may also be transferred to those who are particularly sensitive, which should be a consideration when working with these stones for yourself or with others. I guess to sum up my experience it may not be so much about whether man altered stones have energy, but rather the quality of the energy present when considered as a whole. With as much as I work and dialog with the stones I have yet to find any created/altered stone that is even remotely as resonant and effective as stones that remain free of such " tinkering " . This is, of course, a single perspective that is admittedly rather unpopular in many metaphysical circles. There are surely others that have different and equally valid experiences. My road is just one where I don't work with altered/created stones and I don't support the monetary interests behind subjecting natural stones to the often harsh processes involved in their alteration. > Another odd thing I wanted to ask about, amytrine? Heating amythst to make citrine. Is amitrine natural or is it merely heat treated amythyst? > There is natural ametrine, though it's somewhat uncommon and generally always very expensive. As with much of the " citrine " that's readily available, most of the ametrine you find has been heat treated to produce the bicolor effect. There is absolutely no way you can tell the difference unless you're able to perform advanced tests in a lab. This underscores the need to buy stones from people with integrity and knowledge, which is a good policy in general. Some of the most beautiful natural Ametrine comes from Boliva. Most resellers know this and will tell people that the heated ametrine comes from Boliva to further sales. As with most fakes, there is generally always an authentic counterpart that is produced synthetically at lower costs, which result in higher profit when they fail to disclose the synthetic component to the stones. You see it commonly with citrine, ametrine, alexandrite, ruby, sapphire, emeralf, turquoise, opal, obsidian, topaz, etc., etc. > I have seen clear quartz that had been irradiated to make it into smokey quartz too. Usually it is very dark, most smoky quartz is not that dark in color. > Yes.... this is commonly done with the Arkansas quartz. This is, to me, one of the most cruel and traumatic things to do to these stones. The end result is, as you said, a black color that is nearly never found in Nature (though a few rare locations do yield similar colors). The energy of these crystals are generally badly fragmented and damaged. There is a high degree of trauma present. I know people, myself included, that have done a great deal of work with these " treated " stones and the work it takes to even balance the trauma in them is significant. The majority of popular stones in commercial jewelry have been heated or irradiated as well. Nearly every single ruby, emerald, topaz, etc. has been through this " enhancement " process. In fact, they commonly heat amethyst commercially to darken the color and remove internal " flaws " that make faceted pieces less commercially viable. I could go on and on, as this is something I've researched extensively. I find it all very unfortunate really. Sorry to go on and on. Just one of those things that tend to bug me quite a bit.
