Guest guest
The treatment should continue, unless the client refuses. You need his permission. Explain to him that in order to free the blockage this has to be done. It's equivalent to increasing the water pressure in a tube until the blockage is cleared. The more pressure - the greater pain, until it breaks through. At least this is my understanding. Sorry for he plumbing references. acupuncture , " Monty Cunningham " <monty@s...> wrote: > > A number of times when working with headaches and acupressure I find > that the pain from a headache get worse as I press a particular point. > I have notice this especially with migraine headaches using reflexology > points on the thumb for upper neck problems and GB20. Guest guest
Hello Monty...You must know, that I am digging into my student memories in answering this question, but here it goes...There are three states that an acupuncture point can be in. Pain, latent pain, no pain. A painful point is one that hurts without being touched, a latent point hurts with pressure, and the third is considered a healthy state, no pain either way. Latent Pain upon pressure indicated disharmony, while pain without touch indicates worse disharmony. I think pain is a good indicator of diagnoses and thus appropriate treatment. It is resonable that pain should follow a particular meridian, especially GB for headache. GB 20 is often a trigger point for headache pain. Pressure or needling will relieve the muscular tenseness that can be the origin of headache. It also facilitates free flow in the channel. I think increased pain is to be expected, but the result should be less headache pain. You can consider pressure near the end of the meridian, to pull down the pain, first. GB41 is a good one if it is a GB headache. Then move on to the head. I only use needling, but I think that pain is required when using pressure. Hope this helped. Guest guest
Micheal, the original question had to do with acupressure, not acupuncture. It is my understanding that pressure points must be treated aggressively, with a level of pain tolerable to the patient. Lori --- Park Michael <reservexo wrote: > what is wrong with you people.
