" Dr La Tourrette " would give a position of authority, to which most people

(in my experience) will defer. Depending on the philosophy of the person,

you may find yourself treated with more respect but less spontaneity, or

with less respect and more sneering. Of course, other possibilities exist.

I have no idea of the differences between " Doc " , " John " and " Jack " .

Possibly, that's an " American " thing. (I've never lived in America, so can't

comment.)

That makes no difference. People in customer support

jobs have to serve everyone. If anything, that makes

it a good indication that it is persistent behavior on

her part.

I'd be very surprised if you were the first person she

pulled her psycho-nut act on. The owner had probably

heard about " Kathya " from the other waitresses a

couple of times, and dismissed it as office gossip.

But your letter made the whole thing real that this

person is affecting business.

Also, anyone with direct customer interaction has no

business carrying a personal cell phone during working

hours IMO (emergencies excepted). It's bound to ring

and interrupt work.

> Gestapo " ?

I'm guessing she was the one who got 86'ed. Too bad.

So sad. :)

Hi Doc,

I know this is long, but had to get it off of my chest...

That was a cool letter...and I had to laugh a little because my

husband and I can relate...especially my husband in his line of work.

A lot of people who first meet him describe him as the " Marlboro guy "

(except that he doesn't smoke) because that's the way he dresses most

of the time. I can't remember the last time I saw him in a sports

coat, let alone a tie. He's got the degrees and credentials, owns

his own business, comes highly recommended as a specialist in his

field here, etc, etc...

He'll often show up to a prospective construction site driving his

beatup looking 60's van that he converted into this really cool work

van that has all of his testing equipment inside. He determines

whether or not the property owner can build the hundreds (or one)

homes he want's to build there, what needs to be done to a site to

make it ready, etc... When he's satisfied everything is good, he

puts his Professional Engineer's stamp on the paperwork for the go

ahead for construction. Until he does that, nothing can happen.

There are a limited few with his background in our region, so he and

his team, get called in for a lot of the site assessment work and

there's usually a long waiting list...we are in the middle of a

building boom here.

On more than a few occasions he's had property owners or their

neighbors come driving up in a huff, wondering who the hell he is,

having already made their assessment of what type of a person he is

based on how he's dressed and the old van he's driving. Some get out

of their car screaming at him to get the hell of their land...until

they realize who he is and why he's there. Then they shut right up

and apologize.

One time when he was doing some testing work on a site for a really

big subdivision that was planned, this really ignorant young

sherrif's deputy showed up, got out of his squad car with his triple

warmer already abaze, yelling into the loudspeaker telling him to get

the hell out of there Now!......Yosemite Sam comes to mind.

My husband calmly walked up to him and handed him his cell phone with

the owner of the property on the line for him to talk to.

When he shows up to a site in his really nice car, etc..nobody

bothers him..... you all get the picture…

Now if someone rubs him the wrong way....well, he really wouldn't

hold things up for them now would he?.....No he wouldn't do

that.....that's not professional now is it?

I think they certainly owed you and your son an apology....at the

very least.
