bruising after treatments

I started acupuncture and TCM herbs about a month ago for migranes

and insomnia. I've had 2 treatments. During my last treatment, I

developed a huge knot on my left temple. The TCM doctor told me it

was a 'qi' or energy bump. It was very uncomfortable and now I have

a nasty bruise there. I've talked to a number of people, but none of

them have ever heard of the qi bump but say that bruising is not

uncommon. I'm a little concerned about taking my next treatment

because of the bump developing right on my temple. I'm looking for

more understanding of the qi bump issue.

I'm very hopeful that through acupuncture and the herbs I can be rid

of migranes and regain a healthy sleep pattern. Any information

about this would be helpful.

Well I'd say your qi bump was a hematoma, a common

side effect of needling the face. It is caused by

hitting a small blood vessel and can be stopped by

appling direct firm pressure on the spot when it first

happens. As far as I know there is no theraputic

affect to it.

Hi,

Bob is correct and one thing I might not have written before is that it can

be pressed out and sometimes some of the bruising can be slightly avoided.

The pressing out can be a bit painful. Sometimes I use something called White

Flower Oil on the spot also to defuse the pain and discomfort. These are not

dangerous usually and often do occur on the face as he mentioned and should

not in themselves be a reason for not getting treatment.

Sincerely,

Bobbi
