Dear Ruth,

Your response to treatment is interesting and unusual in my experience. It

seems that moving your Qi sets up all sorts of other responses. This could be

related to what is known as kundalini energy being released or something

else. Your pulses from an Oriental point of view would really be the only

other way to begin to arrive at any understanding. Sometimes a really in

depth medical/emotional history can give clues. Also not knowing what points

where treated makes anything really a guess. I think that moving your energy

too quickly for you doing anything is probably part of the problem and would

suggest that you think about finding ways to ground your energy more.

I don't know if this helps but without anymore details it's only a guess.

Where are you located? What are you wanting to be treated for? Perhaps we can

suggest someone else near you who can help you assess why this happens,

especially since reflexology also set it off.

Best Wishes,

Thanks for your 'insight' (or at least educated guesses), Bobbi. I went for

some relief from chronic sinus pressure, headaches, and post nasal drip

imitating alergies. This condition has plagued me at least all of my adult life

and no western practitioner has been able to offer any solution.

How do I go about grounding Qi? Though I admit I can't usually string together

5 breaths without my mind wandering, I do meditate twice a day for at least 30

minutes. I have also practiced yoga (in a style combined with Qi Gong taught at

the Bateman Institute in NY) for, well, it'll be 3 years come September.

I have been living this summer near Cleveland, OH, where I have been working

with very kind and knowing MD/DOM. Unfortunately I need to return to Norman, OK

soon (for school - I'm a non-traditional grad student, returning to finish a

master's program 10 years after completing my BS). Because of my short stay

here we decided to suspend acupuncture and continue just with herbs and the

doctor has offered (actually required!) me to check in weekly by phone

(preferable) or email.

I've had others suggest that its a vagal response to a fear of needles, and

though it might be true on some level (because now I'm 'afraid' it will happen

again and my reaction during the second session was worse than the first), I

don't think that's the underlying cause. The fact that about 4 needles in my

right ear didn't bother me at all also leads away from that hypothesis. Your

suggestion that it might be too quick an energy flow goes along with my thoughts

that it might me a deep emotional block that I do need to work through. Do I

need an DOM or a psychotherapist???? :)

Thanks again,

Ruth
