Minister Dies While Watching 'Passion'

It has happened again. A moviegoer watching the graphically violent " The Passion

of the Christ " has died, reports Reuters. The latest victim was a 43-year-old

Presbyterian minister named José Geraldo Soares, who died in his seat of an

apparent heart attack.

Soares had reserved two movie theaters in a Brazil shopping mall on Sunday

afternoon so he could see the film with his family and the congregations of two

local churches. The movie just opened in Brazil last Friday. But halfway through

the film that tells the biblical story of Christ's last 12 hours, known to

Christians as The Passion, Soares wife noticed that he was unconscious. A doctor

who was also in the theater rushed to his aid, but Soares had already died. His

funeral was held on Monday.

On Feb. 25 in Wichita, Kan., 56-year-old Peggy Law Scott died of a heart attack

while watching the movie's climactic crucifixion scene. She was rushed to a

local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The movie, which recently

surpassed the $300 million mark for worldwide ticket sales, has been criticized

for its extreme depiction of Christ's suffering. Some have even called it

" violent pornography, " reports Zap2It.com.
