Guest guest
In my experience, bullies tend to be clever cowards. My daughter gets bullied and then gets into trouble at school for defending herself. My wife and I have told her to be clever about it next time. I often see violence portrayed as OK (we must be sorry for the perpetrators because it wasn't their fault, they're victims of society, blah blah blah as Doc would say). But force, ah, that's bad (we mustn't use force to protect ourselves from the perpetrators, because it wasn't their fault, they're victims of society, blah blah blah). I suspect that *all* successful politicians are clever cowards. IMO, they get their kicks from power games because their egos are so small, they need power to maintain their illusory self-esteem. Consider any politician (Zimbabwe's Mugabe, North Korea's Kim, etc) who has destroyed an entire country just to feed his power-lust. Politicians love the middle-class, because they have too much to lose by stirring the pot, and too little to gain. They make good voters, good taxpayers, bad thinkers. They spend money on "stuff", get into debt, and depend on the politicians to give them illusory succour for their stupidity. Watch children brought up with the ethic that they must be protected at any cost. I even know one mother that doesn't allow her daughter to go on swings and roundabouts in case she gets hurt. God knows what the poor thing will grow up into. I've allowed my children to climb, jump, run - and fall - in places and at ages where other parents have been aghast. When my children fall and cry, I teach them how to pick themselves up and brush themselves off. Other parents pick their kids up for them. My children have, well, a child-like confidence in their abilities and sometimes get frustrated with their wimpier friends. They also know that falling down is part of learning. I agree with Doc that we grow stronger through adversity, though it has to be tempered with a sense of ethics and boundaries. I'll happily thump a thief who should know better, but I'll never take advantage of someone just because I can. Blessings, Paddy

Guest guest
What's interesting is that I grew up in a neighborhood full of the worst predators and bullys. Boys girls, it didn't matter. I don't know what the difference is between me and those who got bullied because there were a lot who did get bullied and beat up and picked on and the majority of us who didn't. I'm wondering if there is a predator and a prey mindset at work here. I got along with most people where I grew up....maybe has to do with the law of attraction? How we project ourselves? There was this one time...this boy came up to me in the fifth grade and said that so and so said that I had said something nasty about his brother. I said that's strange because I don't know your brother, (someone had set us up). He ignored what I said then told me he was going to kick my butt. He shoved me hard. In defense I punched him in his stomach twice and watched him double over and roll to the ground holding his stomach. End of fight. I surprised him, and it probably looked pretty bad to all the spectators that a skinny girl had beaten up a boy bigger than she was. I give my thanks to my big brother who taught me how to fight and fend for myself. Anyway, the two of us got sent to the principal's office and while we were waiting there we found ourselves siting there laughing our heads off about the whole thing and we made up and were good friends after that. How do you explain that? Strange but true.... Interesting discussion... Lori
Guest guest
Last night, for the first time in a LONG time I asked for help using the three vids method. Today, I felt the urge to finally open all the posts from this group and come back out of the woodwork and into the foreground. Depending on how I look at things, life is really shite and stressful at the moment OR it is full of challenges and I just get to show what I am made of.....am I a coward or otherwise? Nice seeing you " alive " again Chris.
