Hi Carol,

Not sure where you got your information from but it is somewhat beside what is really happening.

Being part of the support groups myself (having Dercum's), many have weight problems, many have not, including myself, am a feather weight and always been on the light side. So no, it is not mainly obese women. Often other family members have the same.

Madelung's: it sounds like you got this from a website or text book too. Truth is that most are women, with Madelungs occurring in the upper part of the body. Interestingly enough I have not heard of even one male with Madelungs, only women, and NONE had alcohol issues ever with most having been teetotallers. Having said this, I'm not saying men don't have Madelung's. I only know of women who have Madelung's

Familial Multiple lipomas have a genetic cell dysfunction, and a person with lipomas can have from one to anywhere of well over 300 fatty lumps all over the body. Often other family members have the same.

What you call early warning signs are certainly experienced but interestingly enough, many people, male and female, experience one, some or all of the niggling health issues as you described in your post. Those are not specific for DD's,Madelung's or FMS. No matter what we do in the way of adjusting and cleaning up one's diet in an answer to those symptoms, those lumps will just grow and grow. Many sufferers of the above diseases have gone to many doctors, and mostly the answer given is: don't worry, non malignant. Actually, going to doctors for these lumps is a nightmare in itself. Many doctors have never even heard about the diseases, many may have heard about it but never seen a patient, and no-one has come up with a solution to stop the development of the lumps, or arrest of the growths.

And from personal experience I can assure you: diet/proper nutrition is not solving the problems. The proper nutrition is maintaining health at the best possible level but it is not a cure.

I didn't mean to discredit your post as such but we have a hard time enough as it is, and misinformation is not going to help many other sufferers.

As it stands now, in our case, it does NOT come down to what we put into our body.

Regards

From what I understand, Dercum's Disease shows up mainly in obese women,Madelung's Disease is usually a disease of middle aged males who drink alot of alcohol, and lipomas I believe are caused when your cell-divisioncontrol mechanism doesn't function properly and your cells continue todivide uncontrollably. You don't just wake up one morning with theseconditions - big diseases like these have been manifesting for a periodof probably years. And before the big diseases show up, you haveprobably had a lot of little nagging small diseases - such as candida, exhaustion, food cravings, dependence on antacids, depression, pms, indigestion, mood swings, etc. These I would call early warning signs. And it still comes down to what you put into your body - you areresponsible for everything you eat and drink - you are the only personwho cares enough about your body to take care of it - your doctor won'ttell you how to take care of your body - all they usually know is drugsand surgery. Your body is made from food and water - so who's in chargehere? Certainly not the doctor. Carol
