I've not heard > of Chan Zen, would that be a combat form of Qigong? Yep. Its where most of the martial arts and energetic martail arts (along with daoist styles) we know today came from. And if you wanna learn something well you might as well go to the source right? Others probably have other opinions but I would say that some of the best combat qigongs are the daoist and chinese buddhist ones. The chan and daoist systems are very similar in many respects and use alot of the same exercises. The chan tends to be more of a hard style (based on physical strenth and fitness) though and focuses alot on wei dan (moving energy to the external for given purposes) although it also encompasses alot of nei dan (moving energy around the inside for given purposes). It depends on what you looking for really. I practice it for health and energetic practice reasons. Personally Ide say if you wanna learn the most deadly martial art on the planet that you can still practice at 100, thats also an awesome meditation qigong practice, magickal system, healing technique and way of becoming a spiritual immortal go the daoist styles (tai chi, xing yi, ba gua). You only need one. Find a good teacher though. One that can demostrate the power of the art on the spot when asked. If you wanna read some cool stuff and get some free books and stuff on internal martial arts google 'earl montegue's tajiworld' And look for his free stuff section. Its a good place to get an idea of what all this Qi gong gobbdly gook is all about from someone that is both a master and a grounded personality peace.
