Hi Kelmie, Actually the ONE situation that I would do something similar to the diaphragm breath on someone is in the case of them choking. Then the diaphragm breath causes a bounce upwards that clears the air passage. Donna taught the use of the diaphragm breath for that particular usuage on self about 8-10 years back. So if you are eating and the food does seem to go down, just do diaphram breath on self and it will clear the passage way to the stomach. Many, many positive uses for it. Especially for those that have difficulty swallowing. After a set of diaphragm breaths they can swallow easily and safely. When using it on someone else it becomes more of a Heimlach procedure. And I do agree that if they are moving and conscious and breathing okay, they should learn to do it for themselves. Better for them in many ways, ways that have already been mentioned. Just curious. How many here do the diaphragm breath 2-3 sets a day? John La Tourrette, PhD
