Guest guest
There are so many kinds of sage, at least 20 of which are commonly grown in backyard gardens. Some sage is sub tropical, some temperate, etc. Some sage grown for its large silvery ornamental foilage, some for its flowers, some as a hummingbird attractor, some as a culinary herb, some for medicinal purposes. In the case of white sage, the term refers to the partiuar species that is used for saging, not the color per se. It does happen to be a white or grey leaved plant but others also are white to grey leaved. Each has its own common name. This particular plant goes by the common name of white sage. (Some plants have more than six common names but every plant only has one scientific name.) The white sage is question is Salvia apinia. Its a woody shrub-like plant. Its best adapted to the arid southwest....... so unless you are into specialty (or " just gotta grow everything) gardening , or you happen live iwhere it can be sucessfully cultivated or just grows wild, it is not likely you would know this plant is just a particular specie of many species of sage. I have a lot of " new age " friends so I have seen a lot of saging going on. Saging rooms, people, things. It does leave a nice herbal but not long lingering scent -- a whole lot more pleasant than those (usually toxic) plug in things. But does it work. What specifically did the Native American Indians use it for and for that matter, was it a part of a specific ceremony or a stand alone procedure..... any knowledgeable ethnobotanists on this forum?? (Wikipedia says it was used for driving away evil spirits) I have heard that burning other plants or resins are more efficacious for cleansing -- for driving away spirits or energy critters. And read that some spirits LIKE to have incense burned for them. Now, since I do not see things of the non-physical dimension, how do I really know what substance really does what, if anything. After I wrote this and before sending it, Docspeed made a post with some specifics. Thanks Doc, that was really interesting. By the way, has anybody actually seen energy critters or spirits being driven away, or thought forms being dissipated, etc., through the use of burning sage or other substances. g
