Guest guest Posted April 14, 2005 Report Share Posted April 14, 2005 Hi Sue, This is interesting as the same could be said for piercings and jewellery - many cultures have piercings as a symbol for something other than the revolt it is often seen as being in the West. Those who taught you that tattoos were low class would no doubt have been sending negative vibes out to anyone with tattoos and as such they would have been chippng away at their energies. I think of the Maoris and their tattoos, symbols of rank andability. Other tribal tattoos that are decorative or rites of passage so thateven the pain is a symbol of good. So, again, I think intent is a key. Some inks have metal or toxins and can be a problem, but content and meaning may be just as important. Mine were a symbol of high achievement of many, many years of diligent training, and they were received as a reward, as a badge of honor because of 28 years of training and for being one of the best at doing what I do... ..and I am so much BETTER now. snip I waited for years to get my first tattoo. I always felt that there should be a deep meaning to it and it should have a connection to me. I did not want to walk in and get one just for the sake of having a tattoo. I finally found an obscure piece of chinese writing that hit the right feeling for me...and what really felt right about it is that is not just a common chinese word or phrase, it actually does not translate easily into English but the meaning of it was what appealed to me. I wish that could say that my tatoo had as a deep personal meaning of achievement as yours did to you Doc. But for me, after thinking on it for about 5 years, I decided to get mine as a statement to myself. Being shy and reserved was only part of who I am, and I think getting the tatoo, was sort of a statement of the "free-er" side of my personality. Nice Jewish "girls" usually don't get them, LOL....Mine is of a small heart, and I can sit on it, practically. No one can say that I wear my heart on my sleve LOL.
