Guest guest
I was reworking the post on grounding for another list I am on because the person who was going to do grounding had something come up and decided that I'd send it here too Grounding and Centering " Now and again, it is necessary to seclude yourself among deep mountains and hidden valleys to restore your link to the source of life. Breathe in and let yourself soar to the ends of the universe; breathe out and bring the cosmos back inside. Next, breathe up all fecundity and vibrancy of the earth. Finally, blend the breath of heaven and the breath of earth with your own, becoming the Breath of Life itself. " -- Morihei Ueshiba, founder of Aikido Here are several things you can do to tune up your energy body and harmonize your chakra , aura and whole self. Physical ,emotional, mental, spiritual grounding and centering are very basic core practices in most system of spiritual practice or personal development. These practices promote increased personal happiness and spiritual health. GROUNDING Grounding Is a basic skill for spiritual hygiene , grounding your own energy into the Earth provides you with both a source of natural healing and protective energy and a outlet for excess and unbalanced energy . Grounding will allow you to deflect emotional energies and other energy flashes in much the same way that lightning rods deflect electrical strikes . What is grounding ? Being grounded means that you are solidly anchored and connected in the present, secure, calm and alert .When you are not grounded you may feel nervous or unfocused or unable to concentrate and more susceptible to being influenced by the energy and emotions in your surroundings. I recommend that at the very least one ground twice to four times a day at the morning and at bedtime lunch time and in the evening are also good times to refresh your grounding. When you practice grounding regularly you will become able to stay grounded and balanced for longer periods of time. Any time you feel spacy or disoriented it is a good idea to ground and center yourself. The first step in many spiritual practices is to learn to ground , that is to connect yourself energetically to the core of the Earth. Even when you wish to astral travel or meditate you will find that beginning from being grounded will help you with inner focus . Grounding is a way of extending your energy body down into the Earth to keep yourself solidly connected there. Grounding allows you to release extra energy, and allows you to dispose of any unbalanced energy you have picked up from an external source. Grounding stabilizes you, so that whatever happens in the world around you, you aren't carried away. You remain stable . Being grounded helps you stay solidly in your body. When you are strongly connected with the body of Earth, you are more aware of the sensations and energy flows in your own body and all the details of the world around you. This helps you respond to the world in a more immediate and appropriate way. You will stay in the present moment, letting the past be and trusting that the future will be even better. This is a vital skill for healing or magic, and even more so for healthy living. When you start to feel stress, worry, anger, hopelessness, or any other emotion that erodes your peace, ground and breathe in the healing Earth energy. Breathe out whatever may be excessive in your emotional response to the situation. You will start to feel calm and in control. Then will help you get a greater degree of clarity about your situation. Whenever you consciously ground and clear your own energy field, you come back to the present moment, conscious of your own truth rather than another person's, and able to face the world around you with greater clarity. Whatever your beliefs are this simple practice can make a huge difference in your life. There are many techniques for grounding and it is wise to look for those that work best for you. The essence of most methods is to relax and visualize yourself sending an energy cord or light beam into the earth from your root chakra (at the tailbone) and allowing it to reach the earth core allowing you to get energy from the Earth and return excess energy down the cord. The energy you send down the cord that is not your own is cleansed and used by the earth. Your own energy is cleansed and returned to you. there are spirit beings that thrive on clearing negative energy. A classic form of grounding is to imagine roots growing into the Earth from your feet and spinal column or central energy channel . Some Traditions strongly prefer that you ground from the spinal center and not from the feet. I follow the tradition of asking the Earth for permission and thanking her for her healing energy . Connect to Source You can also run a cord up or make an energy connection into the spiritual heart of the universe from your crown chakra while intending that you be aligned with the highest soul purpose while staying well connected to the physical plane. That is you are contained within your self and connected to Earth and the physical and to spiritual source at the same time in a harmonious balance with the universe I always ground, center and clear before I begin a healing session or attunement in addition to connecting to the cosmic center and to activating the energies I am working with. I ground from my root chakra rather than from the legs because I got bad cramps in the legs when I grounded from the feet. I send a cord to the earth core asking earth for permission I widen the cord into a tube as wide as my aura and send negative energies down to be transformed to usable energy for the Earth as well as calling up energies from Earth I send up to galactic universal center. Some people feel best when they call the Earth energy up and call the cosmic energy down rather than sending up and down. I often use a specific shakti or subtle energy frequency for grounding, essentially simply commanding grounding into the earth plane and also connection with the universal Spirit core (universal galactic center or seed, throne of God etc.) You can run Reiki or another energy shakti with the intention that it ground you or assist you with grounding and centering. Some energies work better than others for this purpose . The visualization I most often use, when I use one, starts with dropping a cord of light from the heart, and or solar plexus, straight down the spinal channel to the center of the Earth. Or calling up a cord from the Earth center, which some people find easier, and then flowing it up to the spiritual center (sometimes going through the Sun). I then expand it to be a tube, encompassing my entire basic aura. Negative energies, that is energies that do not benefit me, are offered to those entities who consume and transform such energies . Then I ask and intend that the Earth be healed as the energies flow upwards and downwards. I also visualize all my chakras firmly connected to the central channel, and working optimally, as well as all my energy channels inside and outside my physical being, clear filled with light, and balanced and harmonized, combining grounding with clearing and centering and harmonizing . chakra balancing and meditation are two other valuable basic tune up practices . To ground others while doing a Reiki or other energy work one method is to place your hands near the bottom of the person's aura (feet, soles of feet, under feet, etc.) and intend that your reiki pull their energies into balance by grounding excess energy out of their aura. You are pulling the excess energy down through all chakras, and out through the bottom of the aura. Those who see the energy as color might see a rainbow down through the person's body at this point. If you like, you may also intend that this energy be purified by imagining violet flame, or other cleansing symbology consuming the negative energy. You may also send the negative parts of the energy to Earth for cleansing. A very common visualization used for grounding is to visualize yourself as a tree. Imagine energy moving down through your branches and trunk and down through your roots, feeding the earth. Then imagine the earth responding by sending it's grounding energy moving up your roots, trunk and branches to the sky. The idea here is to allow a connection to both heaven and earth. Some people find that they ground better with a chakra rainbow technique imagine pouring paint or colored light onto each chakra clear and violet at the crown, violet or indigo at the brow , blues at the throat, green at the heart , yellow a the solar plexus, orange at the sacral chakra and red at the base chakra . imagine this rainbow of colored light or paint running in a river deep into the Earth and connecting you to the Earth Heart Core with a rainbow of light. Some very airy and light people have difficulty with the idea of grounding finding the idea somewhat oppressive they may prefer a visualization of a mobile tether or lifeline a connection that allows for the exchange and release of energy without having the idea of a fixed connection. the shaft of light visualization may work better for you if you are a very airy personality . Shaft of light - Imagine a beautiful shaft of light coming down from The Source and entering your aura/body at the crown. Sense the energy of this light as it moves down through your body, through each chakra, down to the Earth, and through the Earth, connecting once again with the Source. As this energy washes through you, imagine it washing all negative energy down through your feet and into the Earth where it is cleansed. People often carry small stones with them of kinds that are known to be grounding. You can carry a quartz crystal programmed for grounding . this can help you with staying grounded during the day. Black, brown and red stones are most often used though there are many stones that are grounding . My personal favorite is agate . holding a grounding stone and stilling your mind to sense the Earth's energy and intelligence often works and when you have time there are a number of crystal layouts specifically for grounding. One is to place a small smoky quartz point downwards at your throat and another point down between your legs dark obsidian or hematite are also popular for this. Any clay item can also be used for a grounding connection provided that it is not decorated or dedicated in an ethereal way. Some stones and crystals which can be carried to assist with grounding include dark tourmaline , snowflake obsidian, onyx , smoky quartz, onyx, obsidian , calcite, agate, granite Many other stones are also useful for grounding. Other ways to ground include eating food , getting your feet on the ground , going to the toilet , hugging a tree , petting animals, and gardening. Dancing with a lot of stomping of feet can also help. CENTERING Some people suggest centering to help you with whatever visualization you wish to do to ground. Others suggest grounding first. The bottom line is that if you are hopelessly ungrounded, you probably won't be able to center too well. Use one of the more physical techniques to get grounded and then center. It is being self contained having good boundaries and being in control of your own energy finding physical , emotional and mental balance within yourself. Centering is a way to self awareness and owning yourself and your energy .You place your attention at your spiritual and personal center and become aware of your inner balance call in your energies and release any energy and programs that are not yours. This is a good starting point for any spiritual exploration knowing yourself and feeling your own integrity and wholeness . When you are centered you will be in a calm state and better able to be aware of your intuitive thoughts and feelings . Centering is done by focussing your attention within your body . To center yourself. Bring your attention and energies into yourself and balance them within yourself, a spiritual " Pull yourself together, " as it were. You may bring your attention into the center of your head and bring all your mental processes into the center of your head. You can visualize a sphere there. Many people prefer to center in the hara, a spiritual energy center about an inch below the belly button. and at about your physical center of gravity Some people center in the heart . The location you choose is the place where you feel you are balanced and contained wherever you are steady and firm in your awareness of self. Centering is necessary to do this in order to have the focus necessary to meditate, visualize, or do magic or healing. But simply for improving your inner quality of life grounding and centering is one of the most important personal practices you can cultivate.
