Guest guest Posted August 1, 2003 Report Share Posted August 1, 2003 Hello - GM Scandal top scientist quits Predictions published in last weeks edition of The Portugal News that food manufacturers would bend the rules to convince consumers that genetically modified foods are safe, are already beginning to materialise. Chris Bradley of the UK environment group WATCH, told The Portugal News that chemical food giants such as Monsanto would invest billions of dollars in programmes designed to cover up the potential health hazards of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) used in food production. No sooner had we published the story than it was announced that a top scientists had resigned from the UK Governments GMO Science Review Board. Dr. Carlo Leifert, professor of ecological agriculture at Newcastle University, resigned saying that the Review Board was dominated by scientists who were either employed by Monsanto or dependent on the conglomerate for research funding.
