Hello -

GM Scandal top scientist quits

Predictions published in last weeks edition of The Portugal News

that food manufacturers would bend the rules to convince consumers

that genetically modified foods are safe, are already beginning to

materialise. Chris Bradley of the UK environment group WATCH, told

The Portugal News that chemical food giants such as Monsanto would

invest billions of dollars in programmes designed to cover up the

potential health hazards of genetically modified organisms (GMOs)

used in food production. No sooner had we published the story than

it was announced that a top scientists had resigned from the UK

Governments GMO Science Review Board. Dr. Carlo Leifert, professor

of ecological agriculture at Newcastle University, resigned saying

that the Review Board was dominated by scientists who were either

employed by Monsanto or dependent on the conglomerate for research

funding.
