Guest guest
Hi there, I heard about a book entitled " Acupuncture - A Patient's Guide to Self Needling Techniques " I believe it was published in China. but I can't find any more info on it, maybe does not have an English translation. I wonder what the consensus on 'self needling' is - should it be encouraged ? Are there dangers involved ? Thanks for your input, Sammy. shaanxi_98 [shaanxi_98] 01 September 2003 02:13 Chinese Medicine Acupuncture for Pain Any one who is interested in acupuncture pain management, please post your message in acupuncture-pain group as well. But I was told that it is not the best idea for two reasons: 1) a " sick " entity is needling a sick entity; and, (energy transfer) 2) if you fall asleep, who is watching over you? gh
Guest guest
I wonder what the consensus on 'self needling' is - should it be encouraged ? Are there dangers involved ? As for patients needling themselves well, lots of apprehension and worry !!i i am of the belief that only fully trained( not weekend short coarse) persons should be attempting this .As for myself ,i acupuncture myself (only where i can reach in a comfortable position)and find that the sensation tends to be stronger -coming from a traditional point of view ,i try and achieve strong De Qi were ever possible. I was encouraged by my acupuncture mentor to do this -therefore i would understand the different sensations that can be achieved and what the patient would fell -also a lack of time to go and see another practitioner was not practical at the time when i needed the treatment . Guest guest
Hi Rod, In some communities self treatment by the patient is considered as 'homework'. Generally this would be in the form of moxabustion, pole, the little stick on moxa rolls, direct grain size etc and there is an education from the practitioner to the patient on how and where to make treament. In such communities they have been doing 'home moxabustion' for a long time. My experience has been to find another practitioner and receive and give a treatment each week. Also regular study groups can provide an enviroment in which to gain treatment. The exchange practitioner does not have to be an acupuncturist, they may have another healing modality. In the end I think it is less the modality and more the practitioner behind the modality that counts. Guest guest
I think that you will rarely find LV 4/5 being used for pain. The four gates (LV 3/LI 4) is far more commonly used, especially for whole body pain. Two excellent references (that are available to anyone)for acupoint combinations are: http://homepage.eircom.net/~progers/ad2.htm http://www.tcmstudent.com/ (study tools) Kay King, DC, FIAMA
