Maria,

Yes, acupuncture can help a lot with post operative pain. It can also

help balance your system from all that your body has gone through. It

can help you feel more calm, sleep better, deal with any emotional

issues (the body stores these traumas), help detox your body from the

chemo and radiation and help significantly with your pain.

I highly recommend finding a good acupuncturist in your area. Check

out: www.nccaom.org to find one.

Best of luck!

acupuncture Question about acupuncture

I would like to know if any one has had acupuncture to help with pain.

I am a 2 year survivor of breast cancer and went through surgery,

chemo, radiation and now am on medicine to prevent a reocurrence. I

have never had acupuncture and don't know any one who has.

If any one could let me know about their experiences with acupuncture I

would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Maria

My mother is currently using an electro-acupuncture kit loaned to her by her

physiotherapist for the relief of back pain.

And she says it works.

In Britain at least, where I live, the medical authorities seem to use it mainly

for pain relief and also for anaesthesia when conventional anaesthesia is not

appropriate. All anaesthetists here have to learn acupuncture as well as

conventional anaesthesia apparently.

I believe though that medical people here do not do such thorough training as

traditional Chinese practitioners. Ideally I would find an acupuncturist who is

trained properly.

I don't know where you live, but in Britain you can find a properly trained

acupuncturist if you get in touch with the British Acupuncture Society.

Alternatively, go to your local Chinatown and make enquiries there.

Good luck.

Hi, Maria.

I have personally used acupuncture to treat pain and prevent it

(awesome stuff before I had my ACL recontruction...flew through rehab

with only one day of meds). I am also a practitioner, and many of my

patients are being seen for chronic pain conditions.

Acupuncture is great for many things including pains from surgeries,

chemo and radiation. It is also very effective for treating or

preventing many of the other side-affects. In addition, it is a great

preventative medicine. Very good for stress-relief and restoring the

body's normal function.

I know there is information about acu and breast cancer on

www.breastcancer.org if you are looking for more info.

Congrats on winning the fight. Keep it up! My mother had it, and

that was one of the biggest things that brought me to this medicine.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
