Acupuncture for Foot Drop condition?

Just wondering if anyone knows if acupuncture has ever been used to

treat foot drop...with success, that is. I have had foot drop since

last Christmas...as a result of a herniated disk (L-5). Had surgery

to remove herniated portion of disk (which had fallen onto the nerve

that controls the foot). Nerve no longer entrapped and it's a slow

recovery, as I understand it. Nerve must heal and this takes up to

one year. Decided to try the acupuncture to maybe wake up the nerve

and muscles affected. Any comments from anyone?

Foot Drop is something I am not familiar wiith as a term. If it is a herniated

disc then there are treatments available for the massage and movement of the

vertabrae and gently but steadily replecing the disc in the correct area.

Stones. plastic wood etc, placed under the back in the area of the disc can

slowly move vertabrae( not without some pain) sedate areas of discomfort.

sciatic nerve seems to come into play here and that line behind the leg is good

for massage as well (behind the knee). Flattish stones with a slight bump are

good for this. leaning up against the wall corner on the edge and alighning your

vertabrae might help. There are massage specialists that specialize in backs.

there are professional issues involved so that sharing thoughts is

neither permissible nor advisable

 

since the pain disappeared it would seem the treatment is doing you well

 

i would suggest a continuance of 5 sessions or so by which time you

should have real time

results, and at least a significant betterment in foot drop

Yes, I have treated foot drop very successfully and quite simply. I

used a series of local and distal points. The local points were mainly

to affect the channels involved physically. The distal points were used

to support the underlying deficiency of the patient. For example, the

patient had a weak Spleen energy, the Spleen is seen to influence

muscles, and therefore this would obviously make some difference to this

condition. Similarly the patient had a Stagnation/blockage in her Liver

energy, and again, since the Liver is said to influence tendons,

smoothing the flow of energy within the Liver had a remarkable effect on

Thanks for your reply. I4 months have gone by since I actually asked about

acupuncture and my foot drop. I realize the longer it exists...the changes

reduce dramatically. So, here we are...foot drop has been present for one year

and 8 months. Is it still worth a shot after having it this long? If so, I

know of a reputable doctor (Dr. Quinlin, Canal Winchester, OH) who I may call to

get it started. Please advise?
