Guest guest
Hi Jenny, I know a number of my peers at the College of Traditional Acupuncture have studied this subject at dissertation - contact the college on 01926 422121 to arrange viewings of these papers. The most up-to-date book that I have seen is Schnyer R. Allen, J Acupuncture in the Treatment of Depression 2001 Churchill Livingstone ISBN 0 443 07131 4. However, having reviewed this book - I have reservations: it uses formulaic treatments and discounts the patient/practitioner relationship as far as possible - both of which are apparantly vital to the Western scientific research community; but which is not accurately measuring everything a true individual acupuncture treatment offers. Without wishing to be biased, the profession does acknowledge that Five Element Acupuncture (which is what our college specialises in) as opposed to 'TCM' is best suited to psychological treatment - we believe that the emotions are expressed at all levels, and both create and manifest because of sickness elsewhere. If you wish to talk about this some more, I'd be more than happy - I'm hoping to do my Masters on the use of clinical psychology in the context of the Traditional Diagnosis/Patient Practitioner relationship, so we may be useful to each other! Best wishes Julie Reynolds 0121 4533977 (anytime, leave a message if I'm not in)
Guest guest
Hi.. take a look on " Acupuncture in Practice " , Ted Kaptchuk and Mac Pherson, Churchill Livingstone, UK and " European Journal of Oriental Medicine " Vol 2 nº 5. There is an article from David Mayor called The Hurts, The Angst, The Blues. I hope it helps.
