hullo. =) i'm mari, i'm 22 and am thinking about pursuing a career in

acupuncture.

i've been going to clinic for the past three years, getting treatment

for my chronic pain syndrome, Fibromyalgia (FMS). it took about 6

months for me to actually see some results, but now, i'm a lot

better than i was 3 years ago. altho i;m better, school is still a

big struggle for me, but i'm hangin in there. i go to clinic about

twice a week and if it;s a bad week, three times. [i was diagnosed

with FMS at 19, but started with symptoms when i was 18. in october,

i will have had FMS for 5 years.]

i really like the people at Emperor's College, which is where i go to

get treated. They have a pilot program with UCLA at the student

health center also. I first got treatments at the UCLA clinic, but

now i go to Emperor's for treatments. UCLA only lets the interns use

only needles. I see better results at Emperor's b/c i can get

cupping/bleeding, which really helps with my stagnation.

i never really considered acupuncture as a solution to my pain until

a friend of mine, who also has FMS, suggested that i go. she said " if

those western doctors can't help you, try the next better

direction. ' ;) and to this day, i am REALLY glad that she suggested

it.

acupuncture has really helped my IBS, which was initially my main

reason for treatment, and helped to reduce my pain (which later

became my main complaint), fatigue and insomnia.

acupuncture has just been so intriguing. i REALLY am thinking about

pursuing it as a career. i'm currently getting a BA in psychology

from UCLA, but i also want to help people spiritually and physically,

so acupuncture seems like a good choice, no? ;) so, i think (and

hopefully) will go to Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental

medicine. they have a good background and teach a whole bunch of

techniques. i'm also interested in reiki and massage also, which are

both done at Emperor's. i;m currently reading " the web that has to

weaver " which is the intro book at emperor's. so i'm just getting a

headstart and i have a better idea of what the hell that are talking

about during my treatments.

so yea, that's it. i just have really enjoyed my experiences.
