Comparing Apples to Oranges is NOT logical, is it?

You'll get no argument from me on the increased value of practicing

a martially-based form of Qigong. Since Yi moves Qi, and Qi moves Li

(or in Wade-Giles parlance, if I moves Ch'i, and Ch'i moves Li) then

it follows that the greater the intention, the more Qi movement and

the more Qi movement, the greater the benefit to the body (Li).

Personally, I have never gone in for non-martial forms of Qigong,

either. But my experience has been that people like you and me are

the exception rather than the rule in that we're willing to (or

maybe even like to) be in the sh!t (if you've trained with SOG, then

you know what I'm talking about).

Since there's benefit in any effort to conciously move Qi (Qigong,

martial arts, take-one's-dough etc), I'm not going to deride people

that want to take this approach just because they don't want to be

in a fighting environment. So I guess we're sort of in agreement.

It's just that I don't like to cast aspersions.

As for the Wade vs Pinyin topic, you forgot the the Ch in Ch'i is an

asperated consonant (according to the Wade-Giles system). So to

revise your table:

1. Qi - Ch'i

2. Qigong - Ch'i Kung

3. Qin Na - Ch'in Na -- even Jimmy Yang (Yang Jwing Ming) got this

one wrong

4. Jing - Ching (no asperation-no apostrophe)

actuall, Jin means Spirit, Jing (as in Fa-Jing) means

both physical power and semen, depending on context

5. Gongfu - Kung fu

6. Taijiquan - T'ai Chi Ch'uan

Personally, I think it's a lot more important that a person do

SOMETHING to improve their life and heath than it is to do nothing.

I'm not going to make fun of the ones that don't want to strap on

kevlar and blow through a door.

But what do I know? I'm just a dumb country boy.

Regards (and ducking in anticipation of the coming flames 8^)
