Here are my 2 cents:

Well, I think being accredited is key. Don't know if you can even

sit for the national exams if you didn't go to an accredited school

(I think). National exams are the standard requirement for almost

all states including Ohio. An important consideration, especially

if you might not stay in Ohio.

I'd also consider what are the total number of hours and how are

they broken down? Different schools have different hours,

distribution. Different states have different requirements.

Do you get a Master's degree or just some type of certification?

People can argue this either way, but I think a Master's is a

minimum now that doctorates are available. Unless you have the

experience and reputation to compete.

I am a grad of PCOM in San Diego and am currently practicing in

Centerville, OH (near Dayton). Is the school you are referring to

the one in Lebanon? I've met some of the people working

there...well-educated. Not sure what that curriculum is like,

though.

I'm only here in OH for a few more months. Not totally up-to-date

on what's going on here as far as requirements go (can give you

contact info of the state assoc. people if you'd like).

Two big things with acu in OH: 1) No herbs included in scope yet.

Big part of (don't say that phrase here in OH, at

least not to the medical board). I don't think the training is much

if anything here. You can do acu without using herbs, but it limits

what you can treat and how well you can treat it. 2) OH still

requires a doctor to sign a perscription for treatment. Okay if you

are working with docs or have no problem asking for a perscription

from patient's docs. That's what I have been doing, no prob.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Sincerely,

Kris Sandberg

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. People refer to it as PCOM for short.
