Or if there is some type of stone that reminds you of your childhood, or a time-link or window quartz crystal. Let me know if you need more info about the quartz. But, in order to get through the class, I think you need to do a grounding meditation right before class and deal with the childhood issues at a separate time. Ground yourself with something earthy or something red or black for the root chakra.
