Guest guest
Thank you Somshekhar Nair for "enlightening" us that Naan, Kulcha, Rumaali Roti is Non Vegetarian. Next time, please enquire with the said manager of your regular Vegetarian Restaurant to find out whether he is selling Icecream, Coke and Pepsi and whether these products are Veg or Non Veg. Also, add the following to your list of Non Vegetarian food. Those who drink milk are not vegetarians. Show me a child who has grown up without milk. Those who take allopathic medicines/vaccines are not vegetarians. Those who eat sugar are not vegetarians. Those who eat mithai with varak etc. are not vegetarians. Gelatin consumers are not vegetarians. [Ofcourse vegetarian Gelatin is available. But Gelatin is largely made of extracts of boiled bones, hooves and animal tissues]. Jelly is not vegetarian. In oils (Dalda controversy of 15 years old if you'd remember), beef tallow is used. Those who eat Khara (salted) biscuits and cakes are not vegetarians. Italian chef recently wrote that even Vegetarian soups in Italy (or for that matter in most western countries, I'd say) are made of pork or beef stock. So, those who claim that they are 100 percent vegetarians are hoodwinking themselves. 100% vegetarian is a myth. Can Baba Ramdev or Sri Sri Ravi Shankar say that they are 100% vegetarian? In a few seconds the managers of the restaurant who was known to me from many years approached me and requested me to cut NAN from our order as it was not a JAIN food, I inquired to him that how was that possible as it's only made of MAIDA. What he clarified with his professional ethics was just shocking, here are the details:- 1] NAN, KULCHA & RUMALI ROTI CANNOT BE MADE WITHOUT EGG in it. It is absolutely impossible for any one to make them without egg in a hotel. It will not be that soft and elastic through out the day and shall start to crack in some time. 2] He also clarified that as been registered a Vegetarian Hotel he can't bring in eggs so they get the Atta made in ready form from local bakeries who prepare it for them and supply to all restaurants. 3] He also said that even though all restaurants owners will deny this but it is a fact and that others do not say it so as to not loose business. In fact they turn a blind eye on what the bakery wala adds to the atta mixture. 4] He also stated that he has experience for so many years as a restaurant manager in many hotels does not know any single outlet that could give you VEGETARIAN NAN, KULCHA or RUMALI ROTI. 5] He also stated that he now clarifies it to all his clients, as he feels that it is against his ethics to not provide details to the customer. 6] Only Plain Roti is the only item that a normal Vegeterian or a Jain can consume in a hotel. All this stated above is 100% true and I shall request all of you to PLEASE give this detail to all your friends who are not only Jain but even Vegetarian. Guest guest
In the west a vegetarian is someone who does not eat dead flesh from some once living creature - we have had this argument/discussion before - a VEGAN is someone who allegedly takes no animal protein - the difference is fairly clear. In India it appears to be a different label. Guest guest
Respected Prabha Krishnan Many thanks for your clarification to the message of Dr Rebello. I can sight the name of Dr Anne Besant, who as well as Lord Hume and Mr A.P. Sinnette who have written lot of books, and also books on Art of living. Dr. Besent brought for our country a message which is without any distinction of caste, creed, sex, religion, colour or nation.though she was a british national but if one goes through her work, will agree that she was not less than any Hindu saint, in her living, preaching as also in eating habbits. I have travelled many countries of the world, and had been carrying lot of food items with me, in case I do not get vegetarian food there, I use to prepare my own because I am pure vegetarian. Despite this in many places foods like Ice cream and cake etc.eggs were mixed, but I had taken it. As a theosophist, we have belief in all religions and I know Dr. Rebello, he too believe and have faith in all religions, like any theosophist. Dr Annie Besent, Lord Hume and Mr A.P. Senette, brought message of theosophy in India. The theosophical Society was established in New York(USA) in 1875, by Madam H.P. Blawatsky and Col. Olcot and they brought it to India established headquarters of the Society at Adyar Chennai. I have been associated with a project for about 4 years at shantiniketan(West Bengal) on Rural Development, where I had been in teaching job. I was surprised that Sri Ravindra Nath Tagore had introdused a subject ' THEOSOPHY' in shantinekatan University. In india only Shantinikatan University has introdused theosophy as a subject. , So what ever I learnt so far, is that food habbits have to do nothing with religion. Many muslims are vegetarians. there are many Muslim who are in theosophical Society as also Christians, Hindu, Sikhs, Jains and Zorastrians and many more. one can vizit Blavatsky Lodge of Theosophical Society, in Mumbai to know more about this society. I am a member since 1966 and presently President of Theosophical Society,in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, which was established in Lucknow in the year 1882 and i am trying my best to practice what I preach. If I have written any thing, which hurts feeling of any one I seek pardon. with due regards to you and all other friends, that for their own health, adopt vegetarianism, and never raise any question of compatability/ acceptability by one religion or the other. May God Bless you with kind regards DR. J.N.
