They WILL be able to protect themselves! So their unconscious minds were attracted to a skill that gave them the self-reliance and resources they needed. That type of person did not do a martial art 6 months and go to scrabble. If they started at 6 and they are 60, they still train daily. But that's with just a few rare very proactive people.
