magnesium and calcium

Does anyone know if taking a lot of magnesium can result in a calcium

deficit? I had been taking about 4 G/day of Nieper's 2AEP, for muscle

relaxation and arthritis [along with 4G of niacinamide -quite

effective] - and recently am having more problems with thin hair,

sleep,etc. However, i take a lot of other supplements and am on the

downhill side of menopause. I have never taken calcium, and thinking

i may need it after all...? Thanks in advance for replies. regards,

I have been taking large amounts of magnesium for the past several

years. Sometimes it is straight magnesium, and sometimes with other

minerals. My doctor recommended taking 200 mg of Mg every hour until you

get diarrhea, in order to determine your " saturation dose " of Mg, and

then back off 200 mg. I have not gotten a calcium deficiency from that.

 

Anyone taking any kind of mineral supplements should get an RBC blood

test done every three months, to determine their mineral levels. A hair

analysis is also good to have done.

-Magnesium and cancer: I heard that one woman got rid of bowel

cancer by taking Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate), on a regular

basis.

Since calcium is added even to orange juice and cereal, i would think

we are decreasing our magnesium in the body, because the medical

profession does not put this in products. I know it is used in ERs

for migraines.

Hi Scarlett, It depends on the type of magnesium. Oxide is so highly NOT absorbed you can take alot and not notice much except a loose stool. But Neipers minerals are so highly absorbed that it is a whole other ball game.

You might try adding just a small amount of his calcium orotate and see how it goes. I cannot hardly tolerate it because it is so potent. 1/8th to 1/4th a tab is all I can take. More than that is so tranquilizing to my system that I feel like I am going to stop breathing. No other calcium would have that affect as they just aren't absorbed that well.
