Guest guest
Hi Barb, I'm not Jorge, but I wanted to add something in here about flax seeds - make sure you grind them up before you consume them, otherwise they will pass right through without any benefit. A little coffee grinder is good for this - or I put them right in my smoothie mix every day - I use a Vita Mix which chops them up into smithereens! Guest guest
Barb, A Vita Mix is without a doubt (in my opinion) the best “turbo blender” in the world!! It is very expensive – I paid around $500 for it, but I use it every single day – to make my smoothies, to make soup, to chop cabbage for salad, to make sorbets, grate cheese – it does just about everything except mash potatoes. The blades go around so fast, that whatever you put in it will turn to liquid (of course you can control the speed, so you can chop cabbage, not liquefy it). I even use the center of a pineapple which is very hard and tough, I use skins from organic fruit – pretty much everything, nothing is wasted. So if you’re making a smoothie, you get a “whole food” smoothie, instead of getting just the extracted juice that you would get from a juicer. Now I know there are pros and cons for both types – either the extracted juice or whole juice – and there is also a taste preference. A smoothie from a Vita Mix is thicker – maybe that’s not the right word, because you can add liquid and make it thinner – I guess I would call it “denser”, rather than thicker. More substantial – fills you up better. Juice from a juicer is more liquidy – plus a juicer separates all the pulp out, which I believe is very good for you. I’ve had mine for about 10 years, and I use it pretty much every day for something – mostly smoothies. And soup in the winter. Here is there website http://www.vitamix.com/ - I don’t sell them, but I’m sure I could because I love mine so much!
