Everyone has " an agenda. " But the question remains, is there independent,

well designed, peer reviewed and confirmed, research available, examining

these various nutritional formulas and substances, therapeutic health

programs and protocols? If there isn't, we're just whistling in the dark.

I've consistently found, that about 50% of the nutritional supplements that

come on the market, turn out to be bogus. That's not bad, actually!

I totally agree with you on your statement that 50% of the supplemetns on the market are worthless...I might even say it's a tad higher than that, since some of those which may be halfway decent are nearly impossible for the body to absorb! So they too would be classified as "worthless". Fortunately, there are some reputable companies who offer subperb nutrientsthat are easily absorbed and can actually prove to be beneficial to those who take them. The one we use (after trying many) has over 77 vitamins and minerals and something called fucoidan in it.

Go to PubMed http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/ type in the search area the word....

fucoidan. Then began reading a few of the abstracts.... The research is quite impressive and has certainly gotten the attention of many..Fucoidan is a naturally occuring substance found in the cell wall of a particular brown seaweed. It can have an amazingly good effect on the health of those who take it.

Thank you for the tip. I've made note of the ncbi site, and will access it soon. By the way, the limu4U website you include at the end of your post shows the spelling "...deiteam" (see below). I assume you mean "...dieteam."

Cheryl,

I checked out that website, and it seems

to me that this product is another one of those made with “extracts”

of various “things” – like polyphenols,

glyconutrients, plus the fucoidan

you mention is just an extract of a seaweed - found

only in the cells walls, not the “whole” seaweed. Also, there is sodium benzoate and potassium

sorbate added as preservatives – yuk. I’m into”

whole foods, so I think I would go more towards the whole food supplements.

Carol,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "extracts" of various things"? Yes, this stuff has a variety of nutrients in it (all are naturally occuring within the plant itself). Just like a carrot has certain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in it...the Limu Moui plant...also known as Angel's hair, Mozuku and Nano have the following in it............

17 amino acids including glycoproteins---

----Essential fatty acids, DHA boosts brain function and mood enhancement.

---Fucoidan/Glyconutrients including galactose, mannose, xylose which: Encourage natural Killer (NK) cells to fight disease. NK cells for immune defense. - Stimulate production of B-cells in the immune system. B-cells produce antibodies against the disease organismx, enable the immune defenses into action. - Mobilize white blood cells to engulf and destroy dangerous infections. - The glyconutrients in Limu Moui encourage NK cell and B-cell regeneration, speeding up the body immune attack against invaders.

---Polyphenols - powerful anti-oxidants which- Detoxify the body of heavy metals, free radicals and toxins. - Improve the structure of hair, skin and nails and boost their growth. - Boost gastrointestinal function. - Reduce high blood sugar and cholesterol levels. - Protect cells from malignant replication and damage. - Fight degenerative diseases and aging on a cellular level ("rusting").

----Colloidal minerals including magnesium, calcium, iron, iodine, copper, manganese, boron, zinc. Colloidal mineral properties:- Retain their integrity even when a liquid suspension. - Small particle size is easily absorbed on a cellular level. - Colloidal minerals from plant sources are easily accepted by the body. - Aid in the transport and utilization of other nutrients such as vitamins. - Facilitate the removal of toxic substances

----Vitamins B1, B2 niacin, B12, E, biotin, C, folic acid. Absorbed directly from the sea.

---Live plant enzymes to boost digestion, immune function and overall health.

--All the above nutrients are naturally occurring within the structure of the plant. They are absorbed from the pristine seawater it grows in. I always felt this was good news for anyone looking for a nutritional supplement that offers all the nutrients the sea has to offer, minus the "industrial waste" that is so often found in other ocean areas.

And yes, it does contain sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate, which is added as preservatives. I agree that's a bit of a shame...but...if it has to be in there in order for them to manufacture this product properly and legally, then that's ok with me.. Also, when one realizes that the vast majority of foods consummed on a daily basis have many, many preservatives in them, this tiny amount is really a non-issue (especially when the nutritional content is considered!)...Of course that statement wouldn't apply to those who NEVER consume "mainstream" foods. Obviously..... the people who absolutely, positively never consume anything with preservatives in it, would most likely not look twice at this supplement and I can certainly understand that...

Did you happen to go to the National Library of Medicine on line....the PubMed site http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/ and do a search on fucoidan? The research is quite fasinating. I would encourage you to take a look. You may be able to find another product containing fucoidan that doesn't have the preservatives in it. I know of one other, but it's not a liquid form, so I figure the processing may destroy alot of the "good stuff" in it..but there could be others.

Healthy, Happy Blessings!

I've seen their sales brochure and to me it's simply another multilevel marketing piece of trash. Any company that claims they have cured O. J. Simpson's arthritis has gotta be suspect.

Jay

Interesting reading from: http://www.hcrc.org/faqs/juiceplu.html

Juice Plus is a food supplement in which gel capsules contain flash-dried powders of juiced vegetables and fruits, with some fiber added. According to company literature, Juice Plus contains "live" enzymes and each capsule contains more nutrients than several servings of whole, raw fruits or vegetables.

The company literature makes false and misleading claims about the function of enzymes in foods. Oral enzyme supplements are not the "workforce" in the body as claimed -- they are digested, have no enzymatic activity, and will not aid digestion.

Eating whole foods is preferable to juicing and adding back some of the lost fiber will still produce an inferior product.

Juice Plus is a multilevel marketed product -- the company provides distributors with unofficial health claims to help sales.

On a video, OJ Simpson said that Juice Plus cured his arthritis. After his defense team used his arthritis to say he couldn't kill, the Juice Plus company quickly retreated from claiming that Juice Plus cures arthritis. This casts doubt on the company's credibility.

Hi Cathy. I learned about it from a mail out and just had a feeling that it might help me with my chronic sense of malnutrition which is common with chronic fatigue syndrome. I got some and was very pleased that I felt satisfied for the first time in years. I used it daily for about five years, then the cruciferous veges started to work against my thyroid. So I stopped it. I am sure I could still do the fruit caps, but the vege ones don't work for me and they won't sell them seperately so I stopped.

Now I use Super Greens by Innerlight. They don't have the cruciferous veges and seem to work well for me. But they only have greens, no fruit.

Hi Jay, I don't sell Juice Plus. But I have used it and it is not just marketing hype. I have tried other fruit and vege products that did nothing for me, but JP was actually a great thing. I know quite a few people who take it who would not be without it.

When I started on Juice Plus I was eating a remarkably healthy diet, loaded with fresh fruits and veges and I was doing fresh vege juices and still felt malnourished; a symptoms of cfs. Then I started juice plus and it worked wonderfully for me. I felt satisfied and I felt stronger and had more energy.

On the digestive enzyme issue, in kindness I would like to say that you are just plain wrong. Enzymes are involved in every single biological function in the body. The same enzymes that digest food, also perform other functions. As I have posted before, amylase breaks the carbohydrate/histamine bond in the blood and stops allergic responses. It is the most wonderful anti histamine I have ever found. No side effects, just freedom from allergies.

I have also used digestive enzymes to clear my system quickly when feeling toxic in the head from doing lymph system moving treatments. I can go for hours feeling loggy in the head, or I can stop it in ten minutes by taking plant based enzymes on an empty stomach.

Mulitudes of people have used enzymes to do multitudes of things, and the research is out there to back up their experiences.

Also, for those interested in supplementing with digestive enzymes it is important to note, I believe, that enzymes need trace minerals to function. Every enzymes has a trace mineral of some sort on it and without it, it cannot do it's job, so trace mineral supplementation could be a good idea, if you are not sure your diet has all you need.

Cathy,

I think Juice Plus is just another one of

those “extract” supplements –

made from foods, but not really the whole food – just a bunch of stuff

mixed together. It’s probably

a good idea if you don’t already eat enough fruits and veggies. But you’ll have to do some

research – what types of fruits and veggies – are they nutrient

dense? Are they organic? Can the nutrients survive the processing

(how do they get it into a powdered form)?

It’s probably better than isolated

vitamins. But you really need

to get your nutrients from whole foods – not extracts of foods.

And speaking of Juice

Plus saying that it contains “live” enzymes –

try this experiment – buy some of that

pre-made pudding in a cup – they come in

3-packs. Open a capsule and stir it

in. If it liquefies, then it has

live enzymes. If it stays thick,

then it’s dead.

Cheryl

Thank you for the tip. I've made note of the ncbi site, and will access it soon. By the way, the limu4U website you include at the end of your post shows the spelling "...deiteam" (see below). I assume you mean "...dieteam."

best wishes

JP

Re: Re: RE: Lyme

JP...

The one we use (after trying many) has over 77 vitamins and minerals and something called fucoidan in it.

Go to PubMed http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/ type in the search area the word....

fucoidan. Then began reading a few of the abstracts....

Healthy, Happy Blessings!
