Kristin, All Reiki originally came from Master Usui, but many have taken this work further and developed it in their manner, gooten additional information and utilized different methods of practice and training. I believe the there are a few important factors to consider. What do you want from the training? Information and attunement? Traditional methods? Basic information on Reiki in first aid? Information on the chakras? Mentoring after the attunment? Manuals to refer back to or books to buy? How long of class time? Cost range? Then ask lenght of time trainer has teaching...How many students? What do they do when you have additional questions? Are they involve in the local Reiki community? Do the " just do Reiki " or are they massage therapists also? How many classes have they taken? Try to prioritze your needs and answer some acceptable range of answers before signing up for a class or giving money. I do teach non traditional Reiki (though I was trained by a Traditional Master) because I find in this day and time people want additional information and want shorter classes. Call local Metaphysical bookstores ask about Reiki Masters and interview them. Also ask others in the alternative health care practices and see who they recommend. One or two names may come out in the forefront. Good Luck Be love and laugh!!
Guest guest
Good morning, Last night, while checking the internet for Reiki information (training in our area), I came a cross a few sites that had full documents (regarding the teachings of each level) on line. For the most part, the online books were very similar in content. However, on several sites, there were references of different Reiki beliefs foundations. The predominant Reiki methodologies centered around its' founder Mikao Usui. But I also noted that some Master Trainers train in what I am thinking (in my limited knowledge of Reiki) are methodologies based on philosophies different than those of Mikao Usui. Guest guest
Trusting what you feel about a person is key. It is like picking a doctor you will not allow them to touch you if your not comfortable with them. Reiki practioners will be touching your energy fields and being comfortable trusting those gut feelings is essential. gzille > " Kristin Keene " <kkeene > > > Reiki questions >Tue, 10 Oct 2000 08:08:44 -0400 > >Good morning, > >Last night, while checking the internet for Reiki information (training in >our area), I came a cross a few sites that had full documents (regarding >the >teachings of each level) on line. >For the most part, the online books were very similar in content. Guest guest
Kristin: First off, I would like to recommend a Reiki site that has been very useful to me personally, that belongs to Light & Adonea, a couple who live in Arizona. They teach several styles of Reiki including both Western Traditional Usui (what most of us know as Usui Reiki, the Hayashi/Takata lineage) and Japanese Traditional Usui (Reiho, based on Usui's lineages in Japan as well as his workbook). They are very clear in the deliniations and have been gathering the " myths " and " symbols " of different lineages and styles of Reiki for a long time. They are also very knowledgeable resources. Their URL is: http://www.angelfire.com/az/SpiritMatters/index.html In addition to Usui Reiki (whether Western or Japanese) there are also many " add on " forms of Reiki, most of which are channelled and involve the base addition of symbols and/or techniques but still use the Reiki energy. Included in that are numerous types, such as Karuna, Tera Mai, Vajra, Ascension, Sekhmet... I could go on for awhile, but just know that there are a lot of them out there. I personally advise that a student take basic Usui style Reiki before following one of the branch forms so that they can understand and honor Usui's contribution and vision without the extranea of personal metaphysics. Next, I'd like you to consider what the poster asked yesterday, for you to clarify what it is that you are wanting from Reiki, a practitioner, a teacher, whatever. It may be that what you want is a more traditional approach, it may be you do not. But your desires will heavily impact what direction you need to follow in seeking out a practitioner or teacher for yourself. Guest guest
Hi Kristin: It is my belief that many people are born ready to use their natural gifts for using energy to help themselves and others to heal. I think that everyone has these gifts, though many are undeveloped or unaware of them. The family unit and pets are a natural way to explore them, since the intimacy of those relations tends to " bring out " energy exchange and empathy. The usefulness of formalized training for a person who is aware of their active use of energy is to help the person learn to stay grounded, centered, and to develop healthy personal boundaries and ethics. Depending on the method of training, there are many different techniques you can use to focus your natural gifts and draw in even more energy of various vibrations. For that sort of training I would suggest something like Therapeutic Touch or Healing Touch instruction. It is different from the initiative awakening of Reiki, which is a particular energy type, and since Reiki training is focused towards working with Reiki, classes do not normally emphasize psychic hygiene for the practitioner. I practice/teach all three methods, so I'm not comparing them without some experience. However, Reiki makes some things a lot easier, since it doesn't require a lot of the practitioner. It's a good thing, when working with others for healing, to avoid using your personal energy, which can exhaust and drain you; learning how to be a " clean bone " as the Natives say, letting energy move through you rather than out of you, is a healthier practice. Though some healers do use their own energy, they can fall prey to problems related to recharging personal energy and releasing the fallout of the disorders they absorb from others. Sometimes this lowers their immunity to developing dis-ease themselves. An interesting page on psychic and spiritual development is the Crystal Links page: http://www.crystalinks.com/psych.html Hoping this is helpful, Crow " Look for Rainbows in the Darkness " ----Original Message Follows---- " Kristin Keene " <kkeene RE: Reiki questions Wed, 11 Oct 2000 07:19:57 -0400 Thanks Caroline (and everyone else) for your wealth of information. In considering yesterday's question of what I would like to gain from Reiki : Starting at a young age, I had an ability (for lack of a better word), in being able to give fantastic massages. I was the family masseuse. However, what always fascinated me about my ability was not that I could " mush muscles around " to cause relaxation but ..... I could feel an energy that I had. Although it was always a beautiful feeling, I never really understood what it was that I had and...don't even know quite how to explain what it is that I have. I would channel this energy from my body, through my hands to the other persons body and it would be therapeutic for both of us. Not understanding what it was that I have, I eventually ventured away from it. Not intentionally mind you but... more because as a teen, " I had better things to do with my life " (I say this as I roll my eyes). Now, as I get more comfortable with who I am and what *I* want for my own self growth, I find that I am, through natural osmosis, going back to the holistic approach to life and growth. This is something that is happening " naturally " ....a self awakening if you will. To start with, I would like to learn more about my personal energies (more self understanding as well), how to use them on myself and then to be able to use my ability with others. I feel that I have been given a " gift " whose pull is so strong. Thanks for more guidance based on what I have written. Kristin Rev. R. C. I feel you have expressed concerns I share. If you are in a helping profession it's all to easy to find people who seem to be able to drag every bit of energy out of you as if they get their own charge, not through, but from, others. I found some people can leave you feeling depleted after an encounter with them. They leave you with the feeling that they wanted more than you could possibly give. Guest guest
Hi Liz: I've mentioned this book before, but there is a book related to those " draining " kind of people and the relationships we develop with them called " Unholy Hungers " that I have found useful in identifying draining relationships and people in my life, how I perpetuate them and how I can make positive changes to avoid being drained. We also have to be open to the possibility that there may be people in our lives that we drain, and develop good spiritual hygiene so that we know how to " get our own " rather than borrowing someone else's... it is generally not something deliberate or evil on the part of the person who drains others, but a matter of ignorance and/or laziness. Once we know that these sorts of things can happen, then the *work* begins in developing and maintaining personal energy in such a way that it is sacrosanct, belonging to us alone, while we can still help others obtain energy by funnelling external energy through us. Of course, the best possible thing is for people to learn how to do self maintenance, so that they are less dependent on others for energy treatments except during times of distress or illness. Feel free to pass my post along if it will be helpful.
