Guest guest
Dear Crow, Thank you for all the useful suggestions. No, I don't get panic attacks. Had only one, many years ago, in a supermarket in England, when I had a friend with me. I think I'm too heavily medicated now to panic! I will reacquaint myself with the books and tapes I have on meditation and self-hypnosis. I used to investigate all kinds of bodywork when I was younger but, of course, all the skills have slipped away. I did become friendly with one of my neighbours when I first moved here last year, and we did a few things together (go for a swim, visit the garden centre) before she moved away. I don't have anyone else so conveniently close and available. I have lunch occasionally with two editor friends but neither has a car so I have a longish drive to meet them since I moved. I do have several friends, but some are interstate, and all have families/kids/partners etc who take up their time. I don't really fit in. No single friends, unfortunately. I like your phrase *differently abled*!! That's me! I can't rely on my body to do what I want it to do - bits of it give way at the least convenient time and I drop things or fall in the gutter! Great fun! I will look around for the sort of social service you mention, where volunteers will help housebound people. I know they exist but I now live way up the Northern Beaches of Sydney and facilities become fewer this far from the main population centres. Thanks again. I will report on progress (if any!!). Love, Jo, in Sydney
