Guest guest
Patricia Welcome to this wonderful group, I am sure you will learn a great deal and hope you will share even more. I would like to congratulate you on your initiative to learn the Spanish language, I live in Florida or I would volunteer to help. You may consider looking for a migrant workers association or group. They usually host free classes for those wanting to learn English and it may be a good way for you to be exposed to the Spanish language and at the same time our wonderful culture. If there is any other way I could help, please let me know In love and light Norma
Guest guest
Thank you Norma for the warm welcome. What part of Florida do you live in? We do not have many migrant workers here. I checked out Berlitz and am awaiting the lesser expensive group classes and a time when I am not speaking and can give one evening a week for 8 weeks. I am also going to take Salsa and Mambo lessons from Arthur Murray from a bilingual instructor. I believe in multi-tasking. In the nicer weather I cycle at least 15 miles a day - the winter I am a slug so in order to keep in balance (I am a work-a-holic and love it due to my passion for my work and being self-employed) I decided that to pay for a dance package (not cheap) would propel me out of the office doing something very enjoyable and active as well. There is much brainless work that needs to be done each day such as bookeeping and audio tape duplication and I use foreign service institute cd's as I do those things. Conversation is the key though. I am sure I will enjoy this group and look forward to joining in. Guest guest
Patricia: Welcome to you! Yes, I am a " Griffin Grad " <LOL> Both my husband and I have been taking classes from her and her school, have been very pleased with them. Man recently took the NLP with George Bien she offered. I'm afraid we are both a bit disinfranchised as far as mother tongues are concerned; though I am half-Spanish and Man is half-Portuguese we are both very Americanized second generation kids who didn't catch the bilingual gene. It is something I have wanted to do, as well, as I envy my father's semi-annual treks to Mexico to a small town he and another minister have " adopted " ; they bring food, clothing and revival services to the mission there. Dad preaches in Spanish and does a lot of interpreting for the rest of the group. Alas, he is living in Louisiana, so I can't share him with you ;-) However, there are quite a few Portuguese-speaking people in our area; our nextdoor neighbors are from Brazil and have very limited English. Where exactly is Sharon? I imagine that areas like Fall River, and even Lowell, would have a strong Hispanic contingent. If you luck up enough to get your language skills down, come visit me and teach me some! " P.M.Gilmore, C.M.Ht. " wrote: > Well I just popped right in here. Guest guest
Caroline - I just got in from speaking engagement presenting my workshop Be Ever-Slim. I tell the story of George though I do not use his real name. The story is included on my audio book. Did he tell you about his snickers bars and little debbies addiction and getting very ill? Western doctors wanted to do exploritory surgery and that's when he reached " threshold " . He made some hypnosis tapes for himself to recondition his mind. (sorry people - this is a true story but perhaps a bit offensive and I apologize but when I tell the story it is always a good chuckle from the audience and demonstrates that even us " professionals " need to use tools sometimes) Since little debbies was his biggest foible he suggested to himself on tape that " little debbie is a slut " . Okay it is off color but Caroline - you have seen George recently. Have you seen his videos from many years ago? Plus that programming hits hard with him from his strict Polish background. Sometimes you have to create more pain than pleasure - your repitilian brain will always try to get you to avoid pain more than pursue pleasure - but that too. As for Spanish - does your dad have email and if so would he chat with me over the net? I would like to hear of his work in Mexico as I have contact with some Mexico City acupuncturists that are doing what I envision in the rural areas. They only speak Spanish and it is a chore (a worthy one) emailing back and forth. 40% of Providence area kids are hispanic (I am half way between providence and Boston) so I have been looking for programs to volunteer there - kids need a hand these days - especially the girls to tap into their own self-power and feeling of confidence and worth. boys too. I have been searching but due to my insane schedule at the moment a leisurely visit with an abuela (grandmother) or two between clients seems more practical. Summer I have more time for pre-teens. I am on 171 South Main Street (loud street - I use two marvelous tools in practice - one is, since I am taping each session, I have clients use a soft set of very good head phones and run them through a mixer so I can insert music as well - and a set of programmable flashing light glasses that puts people down into alpha in no time flat) Must go we have a thunder storm here. As for me teachihg you Spanish - Jaaaaa.
